The Earth & Exploration Science team seeks a part-time Computer Science Intern for Fall 2023 to develop photo search, mapping, and website capabilities for NASA's astronaut photography database. The intern will work with Earth, planetary, computational, and image scientists in person in Houston, TX at NASA Johnson Space Center.
This is a temporary role not to exceed 17 weeks.
Responsibilities:
- Develop automated methods for html document generation use during International Space Station payload operations
- Work with geospatial information and large datasets related to astronaut photography and associated metadata
- Develop photo search capabilities for Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth website (eol.jsc.nasa.gov)
- Help develop website interface designs
- Perform other duties as required
Requisition Qualifications:
- HTML
- Experience with javascript and/or other programming skills
- Minimum of 2.8 GPA.
- Currently enrolled at an accredited university.
- Completed at least 45 credit hours.
Requisition Preferences:
- Familiarity with geography
- Linux and Windows experience
- BS student in computer science, computer information science, digital design or a closely related field
- Art background

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
