The Vice Provost of Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) oversees the work of teams focused on pilot and project support, advancement, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Learning Technologies, Academic Technologies, and Enrollment Management with the mission of enhancing the student experience for all students, inside and outside the classroom. Academic Technologies (AT), a unit of the office of Academic & Student Affairs, is the campus leader in the design and integration of technologies in state-of-the-art learning environments. AT offers a full range of audio-visual and learning space design expertise to the UW community and works with students, faculty, and staff to enhance learning spaces with new technologies aimed at improving student-learning outcomes. AT supports instruction in 300 general-use classrooms, and its student equipment loan program gives UW Seattle students access to modern multimedia and computing equipment. Its Events Services group offers facilities that accommodate a wide range of events, hosting hundreds each year.
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Computer Maintenance Technician 3 to help support end-to-end management activities involved in designing, creating, delivering, supporting and managing the lifecycle of AV/IT services offered by Academic Technologies in spaces located on the University of Washington’s main campus in Seattle. This position will respond to technical support calls in classrooms, conference rooms, computer labs and event spaces. This position will also provide hand-on support for maintenance activities, troubleshooting technical problems, and resolving or escalating incidents as they occur to restore defined service levels.
Duties & Responsibilities
Respond to technical support calls in classrooms, conference rooms, computer labs and event spaces. Troubleshoot technical problems, resolve or escalate incidents as they occur to restore defined service levels. Perform root cause analysis, document incident resolution and technical troubleshooting procedures, and correspond with clients. Perform support functions needed to maintain a fully operational status of classroom technology and other facilities. 30%
Provide hands-on support for maintenance activities and troubleshooting of technical problems. Perform root cause analysis, document troubleshooting procedures through resolution. Provide additional equipment as a workaround in event of equipment failure to reduce downtime for classes and/or events. 30%
Provide advanced desktop computer support for classroom computers, including software and hardware maintenance, computer image deployment, and end-user support. Utilize image deployment solutions in support of Academic Technologies program of work. This includes support for lecture capture technologies, Zoom web conferencing, Intel Unite Presentation hubs, hardware and configuration support for Crestron control systems, Crestron peripheral devices, Biamp digital signal processors, and other devices such as digital signage, video players, Apple TVs, IP cameras, and network switches. 15%
Troubleshoot various campus partner services including: Campus networks; synchronous, asynchronous and hybrid lecture capture and streaming systems; and UW-IT central software used by instructors in classrooms. Utilize software tools (Crestron Fusion, Biamp Tesira, Crestron xPanels, Crestron Toolbox) to provide remote support and monitoring of classroom equipment. Manage alerts and error reporting. 10%
Act as a liaison with third-party audio visual vendors in relation to warranty and technical support questions. Process Return Merchandise Authorizations for equipment or obtain parts and repair equipment. Maintain a thorough inventory of equipment, furniture and supplies. Conduct or lead equipment inventory and classroom maintenance audits. Assist in the maintenance of web-based inventory and asset management databases. Assist with maintaining furniture levels and configuration in learning spaces, including requests from Disability Resources for faculty and students. Procure equipment and supplies for audio, video, control systems and other technologies. Submit purchase requests for equipment and supplies. 10%
Provide hands-on, site specific orientation and technical training in classrooms and conference rooms, including patron, student, staff, and train the trainer scenarios. Consult with end-users as necessary to ensure that software and technology support needs are met. 5%
Requirements include:
  • One year of experience as a Computer Maintenance Technician II

  • OR Five years of experience as a computer maintenance technician
    OR equivalent education/experience.
    Additional Requirements include:
  • Complete required UW training within probationary period

  • Achieve Avixia CTS Certification within one year of hire date

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Working Conditions:
    • Able to work comfortably on ladders, lifts and in high places as well as in tight conditions such as found in crawl spaces, equipment closets and cabinets.
    • Must be able to safely lift equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
