Job Description

Duties

  • Keep abreast of the latest developments and applications in the field of professional training, education, and learning, especially for virtual users.
  • Advise new ARS scientists and support staff of computational training opportunities.
  • Provide input to identify topics for new courses, evaluate training requirements for ARS scientists, and support staff needing computational training.
  • Provide input on teaching methods used in the training courses and coordinate the logistics of course execution.
  • Manage the overall planning, design, evaluation, reporting, delivery, and administration of all BDI-related training, in consultation with BDI leadership.
  • Evaluate training through pre- and post-course surveys, questionnaires, and feedback.
  • Coordinate all aspects of training development, delivery, and strategic planning, as well as building scientific computing capacity within the Agency.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Basic Requirement
A. Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related disciplines include biology, zoology, microbiology, molecular biology, cellular biology, physiology, genetics, entomology, or ecology.

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

in addition to meeting the basic education requirement, all applicants must meet the following minimum qualification requirement:
Specialized Experience:Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience advising leadership on training needs in the areas of scientific computing and artificial intelligence (AI); leading task groups and working with contractor staff to deliver quality learning products; conducting various teaching methods and techniques including lectures, seminars, or workshops; keeping up to date on the latest developments and applications in the field of professional training, education, and learning; and developing training materials and conducting training in scientific computing and related topics.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
