Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Community Health Workers for NJMS-Pediatrics-WIC Program. This position has an intimate understanding of the culture, languages and challenges of their neighborhoods and, therefore, are trusted by the people living there. CHWs can take on some of the nonclinical tasks that are now carried out by more highly trained and higher-paid nurses, physicians and nutritionists. This role ensures individuals get WIC appointments/information, necessary technological support and outreach referrals, as necessary and get connected to community resources. Therefore, assisting with the barriers to good health care that are not medical, but have more to do with social, cultural or economic issues.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Facilitates learning about WIC digital resources including the Participant Portal, WIC Shopper App (UPC Scanning), eWIC card management, NJWIConline participant skill building.
  • Supports WIC participants, confirms no issues with use of eWIC card their Card, setting PIN etc. by phone, email or text.
  • Maximizes purchasing power when enrolled in multiple food nutrition programs such as SNAP
  • Participants support in the retail setting such as locating WIC foods, using the WIC Shopper App etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Plus one to three (1-3) full years of clerical experience performing data entry activities, database maintenance and general office services support, preferably in a health care services setting.
  • Must have a minimum High School Diploma or GED

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Be familiar with community and the WIC program
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • The ability to speak Spanish or Creole

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
