This position is in the External Affairs and Communications Unit (EAC) at the Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL). The Communications Specialist leads the agency’s overall social media engagement and creative communication strategies for marketing collateral that promotes DACL priorities to District seniors and the public.
The Communications Specialist working directly with other EAC personnel to support video, social media, and email campaigns, as well as the needs of many departments across the agency. The incumbent also participates in agency community-based projects and other special events for seniors.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent of the position develops and leads the organization's social media strategy. Crafts original content for multiple social media platforms that garner high engagement and represent the voice and brand of DACL. Develops and maintains a social media calendar while tracking and managing agency’s digital performance. Establishes and oversees DACL presence on social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Monitors social media conversations, responds when appropriate and alerts upper management if immediate action is required. Serves as EAC’s in-house expert on emerging and social media trends, tools, and best practices. Leads digital marketing efforts, search engine optimization (SEO) strategy development, and production of graphic, video, and photo content.
Education and Qualifications
Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and include work directly related to the video, social media, and email campaigns, and other communications work.
License and Certifications
A valid driver’s license is required.
Work Conditions/Environment
The work is performed in an office setting, but incumbent will occasionally be required to attend events and work some evenings and weekends.
