Family & Child Empowerment Services (FACES) SF provides families who live and work in San Francisco with high-quality early childhood education and enrichment; job support, training, and placement; and comprehensive family support services and referrals. Our mission is to empower families who live and work in San Francisco to transform their futures through evidence-based educational and economic opportunities.


Position Summary

The Communications & Engagement Manager is a key member of the Advancement team at FACES SF, responsible for sharing our mission and impact with a wide audience of internal and external partners, participants, stakeholders, and supporters across many communication channels. As an expert storyteller, the Manager will help create, capture, and curate images, videos, and written content. Reporting to the VP of Advancement, the Communications & Engagement Manager will be part of a collaborative and dynamic cross-functional team focused on sharing stories of impact, joy, and justice as the organization implements a new strategic plan and engages directly with volunteers and supporters to provide updates and ways to get involved.


What You’ll Do


Content Creation & Design (40%)

  • Create content, design layout, and lead production for FACES SF’s materials including newsletters, annual reports, presentations, brochures, flyers, and other publications and collateral as needed.
  • Conduct periodic audits of collateral. Manage vendor relationships for the production of materials and supplies as needed.
  • Select and implement a digital asset management system for images, video, and collateral.
  • Develop calendars and production timelines to shepherd the editorial process so goals are met.
  • Shoot, edit, and produce photos and videos that meet brand and style guidelines for social media, website, and presentations.
  • Play a leadership role in FACES SF’s brand assessment and creation of a style guide. Help produce and socialize refreshed brand guidelines across the organization, and support the adoption of brand and style guidelines for clarity and consistency across all communication channels.
  • Ensure that the content is engaging and consistent across all platforms.


Website & Social Media Management (30%)

  • Manage the full spectrum of digital communications, including content creation for the website, social media, email campaigns, and targeted ads.
  • Review, refresh, and maintain website content and functionality in partnership with contractors and vendors when/where necessary.
  • Support colleagues with creating or editing special campaigns as requested.
  • Develop content to support online fundraising and engagement strategies and activities.
  • Plan and execute all digital marketing, including Search Engine Optimization/Search Engine Marketing (SEO/SEM).


Community, Volunteer & Donor Engagement (20%)

  • Provide event support and attend community events to engage new audiences with FACES SF’s mission and programs.
  • In coordination with our Executive Operations Manager, support relationship management with key contacts, including scheduling meetings and site visits, writing acknowledgment letters, and providing follow-up information and documentation to funders as needed.
  • Oversee the volunteer experience while volunteers are onsite, ensuring high levels of volunteer satisfaction.
  • Support or deliver training and orientations to prepare new volunteers for their roles. Help plan and execute annual donor and volunteer recognition efforts.


Professional Development & Organizational Responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in cross-department committees and teams. Work with internal partners to build systems for information gathering & sharing.
  • Keep abreast of communications and storytelling best practices through publications, professional networks, and educational events to ensure the organization is exploring innovative opportunities and data-driven learning.


Qualifications

You have a solid mix of the following experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:


  • Familiarity with CRMs, collaboration, and project management tools required, Salesforce and Asana experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated project management skills. Ability to take initiative, establish priorities, work independently, and make progress on a variety of projects simultaneously. Track record of working effectively with program leaders to coordinate and successfully deliver projects.
  • Experience engaging and collaborating with diverse audiences and connecting with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong written, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
  • A sense of humor- we believe joy and justice go hand in hand!
  • COVID-19 vaccinated (religious or medical exemption allowed with weekly testing)
  • 5+ years of communications and marketing experience, with historically marginalized families and communities; local Bay Area experience is a plus!
  • Ability to meet required state, federal, local, and CDC standards (including but not limited to fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, First Aid, CPR)
  • A deep commitment to aligning all program practices to FACES SF values, especially around equity, inclusion, and belonging for all our stakeholders within the evaluation process
  • Strong passion for and a desire to humbly reflect and grow in pursuit of our mission
  • Proficiency in: Google Suite; Microsoft Office Suite; design software (e.g. Canva, InDesign, Adobe); experience editing and managing websites (e.g. WordPress, Elementor);email marketing platforms(e.g. MailChimp, MarketingCloud); social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Youtube), and web analytics.
