Job Title Name: College Laboratory Technician **CONTRACT TITLE** College Laboratory Technician **FLSA** Non-exempt **CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION** Under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences at Lehman College, the College Laboratory Technician (CLT) will perform the following: + Prepare, in a timely fashion, all necessary biological samples (preserved or living), reagents, solutions, demonstartions, and other materials for use in assigned labs and departmental facilities. + Ensure a safe and clean laboratory environment. Maintain a clean, orderly, and functional laboratory for use in assigned labs and departmental facilities. + Operate, maintain, repair, and clean equipment an accessories used in assigned labs and departmental facilities. + Provide lab support in the absence of the technician in charge as assigned by the supervisor. + Instruct users on the proper use and maintenance of equipment. + Attend instructional seminars and workshops regarding assigned laboratory duties. + Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all lab equipment, instruments, materials, and accessories, including instrument serial numbers and user manuals, and purchasing dates for all materials and supplies as received. + Assist in the aquisition and maintenance of the chemical and equipment inventory. + Order materials, and/or communicate in a timely fashion as specified by the ordering supervisor, for assigned labs and programs. + Support faculty teaching and research as assigned by the Chair. Support instructors and follow the needs of instructors, such as calling weekly meetings for adjunct instructors; discuss and demonstrate what is needed to ensure the success of the teaching lab(s). + Participate in group meetings of the CLT team and meetings/committees of the department. + Interact with other college departments to support student laboratories (e.g. Buildings & Grounds, Information Technology, Campus Facilities, departmental office staff, among others.) + Perform other duties related to and necessary for the safe and efficient functioning of the department as assisgned by the Chair. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience.

Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience. **OTHER QUALIFICATIONS** + Professional and has good interpersonal skills + Ability to multitask + Proactive + Willing to learn new techniques, protocols, use of new instrumentation + Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and contribute to collegiality and collaboration among faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders. + Demonstrate good time management and organizational skills. + Demonstrate the ability to work independently, as well as in a team. + Evenings and Weekends may be required **Lab skills and technical knowledge must include the following:** Pipetting and Micropetting Ability to prepare various chemical solutions (percentage and molar) Ability to prepare microbiological growth media, agarose gels Use of autoclave, pH meter, balance (including microbalance) Sterile technique Gel electrophoresis Ability to problem solve/trouble shoot **Computer Skills must include use of:** Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams plus willingness to learn to use new platforms and technology tools **Other desired skillls:** The following would be considered a plus-laboratory expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and plant biology; expertise in use of HPLC, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, mocroscopy, PCR, DNA and protein electrophoresis, protein purification, immunohistochemistry, cell biology, cell culture technique; prior research and/or teaching lab experience. **COMPENSATION** $56,484 -$70,927 **BENEFITS** CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification.
