Description

Job Summary
We are looking to fill an immediate opening for a remote, part-time college counselor.
Candidates should be interested in making life easier for high schoolers and their families. Our student interactions are conducted on a 1:1 basis, and we are looking for someone who has experience counseling students towards college goals, personal growth, and career pathways in a formal work setting.
HOURS
5-10 per week

THE OPPORTUNITY

  • Collaborate with teammates to determine the best plan of action, and hold students accountable through execution.
  • For students in grades 8-11, meet approximately once every month to facilitate execution of a strategic plan alongside a Major Advisor
  • For students in grade 12, meet approximately once every week or every other week to facilitate the completion of college applications alongside an Essay Editor
  • Guide high school students towards their best college options by optimizing student profiles along the holistic review process
  • Explain how US college admissions works to students and their parents

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Availability during after-school hours (weekdays after 3pm)
  • Ready access to smartphone with data and a computer with reliable internet
  • 3+ years of work experience as a college counselor
  • Strong communication skills with students, parents, and teammates
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.)
  • Excellent organization and time management.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently employed full-time in Education, or pursuing a career in Education
  • Compassion, cultural awareness, and empathy in dealing with others who come from vastly different backgrounds.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and methods.
  • Calm and patience in dealing with high-pressure situations

EXPECTATIONS REGARDING ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS AND PROFESSIONALISM
Organizational skills and professionalism are part of the job. We require:

  • 1 business day response time to clients and co-workers (e.g. return phone calls, respond to emails and texts, promptly)
  • Punctuality
  • Excellent record-keeping and filing
  • Discretion and confidentiality
  • Compliance with company procedures
  • Excellent time-management and organization


Salary

$25 - $45 per hour
