Job Summary

The Collection Unit Manager supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in conducting credit and collections investigations and the collecting of delinquent accounts of customers by coordinating and/or performing the following duties personally, or through subordinate Supervisors. Responsible for the internal and external collection activities (in-house and outsourced) and personnel (First Bank and Agency staff).

Essential Responsibilities

• Assists subordinates with collection activities including field and/or telephone support in difficult cases.
• Examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
• Recommends field and/or telephone techniques used by Collector.
• Supervises and coordinates activities of clerical workers in related activities.
• Adjusts errors and complaints.
• Reviews delinquent account records to determine which customers must be contacted for collection of overdue accounts.
• Writes letters or approves form letters for use in collection attempts.
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
• Issues written and oral instructions.
• Authorizes or refers accounts for repossession, agency, legal action or loss mitigation (workout).
• Prepares composite reports ofkey performance indicators from systems application and/or individual reports of subordinates.
• Verifies accuracy of accounts.
• Organizes collection work load according to degree and amount of delinquency and assigns accounts to workers for collection.
• Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
• Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.

The degree of judgment is related to the continuous analysis of specialized and complex subjects and the creation, development and implantation of policies, strategies and work methods of general application.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for the following positions: Unit Supervisor, Administrative Assistant and Business Support Representative.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field and three years of related experience.
