The City of Georgetown is hiring for the position of Code Enforcement Officer! Position Overview: Directs community planning duties such as performing field inspections and enforcing municipal codes and land use laws pertaining to the public welfare, property maintenance, streets, sanitation, and signage. Conducts staff presentations to the Architectural Review Board. Pursuant to Section 5-7-32 of the SC Code of Laws, the Code Enforcement Officer may be appointed and commissioned by the municipality (i.e., City Council). Reports to the Director of Planning & Community Development. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: Conducts field investigations and land use inspections to determine compliance of properties with county codes and creates dilapidated housing warning letters/notices and/or ordinance fines of non-compliance. Works with the Building Inspector on delivering and suggesting referrals. Testifies at hearings regarding notices of violation or fines issued to code violators, as needed. Performs corridor code enforcement to include HWY 521, Church Street, 17 and 701. Enforces, inserts, and removes City Solid Waste Ordinance signs and other quality of life regulations. Researches and reviews ordinances, legal descriptions, plat restrictions, and property ownership information to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Reports observed maintenance issues and illegal dumping sites within and around city streets, rights-of-way, businesses, and residential areas to the responsible department for cleanup. Communicates with citizens regarding community development complaints; addresses complaints and refers to appropriate departments as needed; maintains complaint file and investigative findings. Attends FEMA regulation classes in preparation for hurricane season and performs pre-storm preparation with portable restrooms and construction containers around the city, assesses damage after storms and emergency events. Operates an assigned company vehicle within department guidelines and is responsible for maintaining and updating the mileage binder daily. Assists non-profit companies, business owners, and the public in-person and over the phone with special requests for gathering data, deeds, referrals, etc. Effectively communicates with various internal and external groups and individuals. Attends staff meetings and assists the Office Manager with training, delivering packets, etc. Serves as backup for the Planning and Community front desk/customer service. Performs other duties as directed. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a job-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn other software such as NewWorldSystems.net. Valid South Carolina Driver's License. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to lift, reach, bend, exert force or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. May require sitting, standing, or walking for an extended period of time. Operate office equipment such as: computers, copiers, scanners, phones, fax machines, calculators, postage machines, folder/sealer/label machines, etc. Adapt in a stressful work environment and in emergency situations.
