This individual is responsible for training new hires as well as cross-training seasoned staff in clinical skills.

Responsibilities


  • Applanation Tonometry
  • Organizes and oversees clinical rotation and training of ophthalmic assistant students.
  • Immediately requests equipment repairs and maintenance, as needed.
  • Collaborates with Director of Clinical Services to ensure clinical department and physicians are aware of training progress made with each employee.
  • Consistently accurate in coding patient's visits
  • Accurate Refractometry
  • Clinical Training
  • Properly package and autoclave instruments
  • Angle Assessment
  • Schirmers
  • Checks connections.
  • Scribes and works up patients for all physicians as required.
  • Pupillary Function Tests
  • Monitors clinician efficiencies during training to ensure trainees are able to independently meet national benchmarks for appropriate exams.
  • Accurate Topography
  • Ability to assist in Triage as required
  • Addresses patient questions, concerns, and complaints with the goal of attaining resolution for the patient. Includes Director of Clinical Services when necessary. Always provides documentation of issues to forward to the board.
  • Replaces bulbs.
  • Develops and maintains a personalized training program for clinical staff, under supervision of Director of Clinical Services, based on deficiencies revealed by skill evaluations.

  • Knowledge of coding and requirements for specific codes and modifiers
  • Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include:
  • Assist in procedures and lasers, including LASIK
  • Confrontational Visual Field Testing
  • Dilation of Pupils
  • Amsler Grid
  • Performs patient work-ups and diagnostic testing as required by most senior level clinical staff.
  • Remain current on credit hours and JCAHPO certification
  • Participates in written evaluations of clinical employees, as directed.
  • Performs other tasks as required.
  • Instrument Maintenance
  • Visual Acuity
  • Performs calibrations according to manufacturer and/or Graystone requirements
  • Coding
  • Troubleshoots instrument repairs as necessary.
  • Performs 30 day and 90-day reviews of clinical skills for new clinical employees.
  • Assists in training and mentoring new and minimally experienced employees
  • Provides back-up support to other technicians, including returning patient phone calls and managing prescription refills.
  • Maintain OSHA and HIPAA compliance.
  • Adminisister topical and oral medication under the direct supervision of physician
  • Humphrey Visual Field Testing
  • Understanding of the extensive documentation requirements for E & M coding

  • Assists/Trains on LASIK/Refractive team as required
  • Assists in training clinical staff under supervision of Director of Clinical Services.

Education And Experience


  • Three to six months related experience preferred
  • High school diploma
  • Certification within one year of hire to retain position
