Position Summary

The Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center is seeking an organized and motivated individual to join the biofluids processing team within the Fluid Biomarker Core laboratory. This position is responsible for a broad range of laboratory tasks needed to support Alzheimer disease and other biomedical research studies. Duties include handling human fluid biospecimens, basic laboratory equipment use and maintenance, and support of general quality control functions needed for laboratory operations. A successful candidate will have strong clerical accuracy, exceptional organization and time-management skills, and a solid understanding of basic computer applications.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Enters data and/or searches computer files for pertinent data. May utilize database, spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Performs clerical duties, copying, filing, etc. May receive and distribute incoming packages. Prepares outgoing shipments of samples, reports, etc.
  • Receives and sorts human fluid specimens following Standard Operating Procedures. Transports samples between laboratories. Stores and retrieves samples from long-term storage. Re-labels frozen specimens with barcoded labels.
  • Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects as needed.
  • Operates and maintains centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, computers, copiers and other basic laboratory and office equipment. Sanitizes labware and distributes to analytical areas. Stocks work area. Maintains general laboratory cleanliness. Follows laboratory safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
  • Some laboratory and computer experience in a medical setting.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

C04-H

Salary Range

$15.60 - $20.83 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
