This role will manage a team of CLS and Phlebotomists at our three Offsite labs (Emeryville, Redwood City, and Cancer Center South Bay) as well as the Patient Service Centers (PSCs) which are our draw centers. It is an opportunity to engage and collaborate with other departments, and plan for future growth for these sites.

A Brief Overview
Manages the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the clinical laboratories. Ensures that programs, policies, and procedures are established and implemented to meet customer needs, department standards, and regulatory agency requirements. Assesses and determines the staffing needs and practices of the department to optimize the utilization of personnel. Provides leadership and direction to staff
in the achievement of business objectives. Ensures operational effectiveness and productivity needs are met.

What you will do

  • Provide leadership and support to Supervisors and staff to monitor operating performance, standardize laboratory practices, optimize human and financial resources, maintain productivity and resolve technical, service and non-operational issues.
  • Manage the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the clinical laboratories. Ensure that programs, policies and procedures are developed and implemented in accordance with department, quality and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Rotate as administrator-on-call for the consolidated laboratories and directs response to critical or emergent situations.
  • Maintain and meet laboratory regulatory requirements at optimum level including staff competency and training.
  • Manage daily operational issues related to laboratory information system and. Provide input and operational decisions in the implementation of information systems projects. Provides feedback for future information technology.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality assurance programs; provide leadership and support to the Outreach supervisors and staff to develop systems and tools to measure satisfaction and quality of care against industry benchmarks.
  • Communicate and provide leadership to supervisors and staff in the implementation of new processes and techniques. Collaborate with Laboratory and Section Medical Directors, managers and supervisors in establishing strategic plans and development of new programs to improve efficiency, quality, compliance, service and financial outcomes for the laboratories.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor the operating budget and cost accounting data for assigned area of responsibility. Collaborate with the Finance Director to ensure that annual capital and operating budget needs are developed, implemented, and monitored to meet the financial goals of the organization.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university


Experience Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible directly related work experience


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop tactical plans and set priorities
  • Knowledge of chemistry, biology, microbiology and related laboratory sciences
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to solve technical and non-technical problems
  • Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate work results
  • Ability to develop financial budgets and manage expenses
  • Knowledge of mathematics general science and laboratory techniques
  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results
  • Ability to work effectively both as a team player and leader

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $68.38 - $90.62 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
