Job Description
Serves as onsite mentor and nursing knowledge and skills resource nurse for direct care staff and works as staff RN as needed. In collaboration with Clinical Educators assists with planning, developing and supervising clinical orientation of staff. Assists with other staff education on an as needed basis.


Plans, coordinates and directs quality, compassionate care by maintaining standards of professional nursing practice and creating positive therapeutic relationships with patients/families. Supports team members by articulating and demonstrating expected standards of care as an informal leader and encouraging team members through supporting their contributions.


  • Communicates routinely with department manager, preceptors and educator to assess ongoing needs and troubleshoot issues.
  • Evaluates assignments of orientees to ensure adequate exposure and practice of various care activities.
  • Works alongside new team members and provides direct supervision and coaching in skill performance and patient care activities on a daily basis.
  • Works flexible shifts to accommodate needs of orientees.
  • In collaboration with Clinical educator and manager, assigns new staff to appropriate preceptors.
  • Works directly with department manager to determine department needs.
  • In conjunction with Clinical Education, assists with validation of annual staff competencies and other educational activities as needed.
  • Assists with planning clinical experiences for all new staff to the Department.
  • Provides clinical expertise, support and feedback to facilitate the advancement of clinical skills and evidence based practice.
  • Assists in performance improvement (PI) activities by serving on PI teams as warranted, assisting with PI measures and supporting and implementing changes necessary for improvement.
  • Serves as subject matter expert though constant awareness of policies, procedures, protocols, maintaining competencies, and attending continuing education events.

Registered Nurse with current Alabama or Multistate License required. Minimum 2 years’ experience as a registered nurse required. Specialty specific nursing experience preferred in applied area. Customer service abilities including effective listening skills, critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with the minimal supervision in a fast paced environment. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.


Acute Care – Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Responsible to complete all aspects of care for assigned patient load including evaluations, formulating plan of care, collaboration of care plans with patient/family/other disciplines, performing therapeutic interventions, education, and meeting all documentation requirements outlined in department


  • Collaborates and coordinates patients care plans with patient/family and other care providers.
  • May assist with staff competencies.
  • Completes all documentation requirements in the established time frame.
  • Maintains involvement in department and hospital activities.
  • Review, collect and evaluate relevant clinical data.
  • Participates in patient/family teaching.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures for clients as outlined in patient’s plan of care.
  • Assist in departmental planning, staff training, performance improvement, and clinical service development.
  • Maintain clinical and professional competency.
  • Attends in service programs and departmental or hospital meetings.
  • Responsible for supervision of all care delivered by assistants or aides, communicating routinely as to patient needs/goals
  • Shares experience by mentoring students, new employees, volunteers and presenting in services.
  • Provides feedback to the Manager.
  • Formulate and implement an appropriate patient care plan based on patient needs and best practice.
  • Assist with departmental productivity by fulfilling individual work responsibilities and reporting significant variances in patient volume that may require manager adjustments to staffing.

Current Alabama Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech & Language Pathology licensure Maintains active status with license in good standing with the state board or licensing agency. Can write legibly, speak and read English. Maintain current license in one of the previous listed clinical specialties. BLS Certification required.
