Job Description
Title: Clinic Coder- Remote

Shift: Full Time (Remote) Monday through Friday Days
Responsible To: Coding Manager
Position Summary: To take clinical documentation and turn it into a well aligned code-set to send to our payor’s. Identify trends and opportunities for improvements while providing coding expertise and feedback to clinical staff.
Clinic Coder Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for translating all clinical documentation into code-set form (CPT, ICD-10, and HCPC).
  • Adhere to compliance regulations while performing all duties detailed.
  • Manages assigned provider workload
  • Keep abreast of all current billing and coding rules and regulations affecting government and non-government payers.
  • Communicates trends in coding and documentation to manager for assigned providers
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Utilize technical coding principals and reimbursement rule expertise to assign appropriate ICD diagnosis and CPT procedures including understanding all elements in E&M coding.
  • Maintain current knowledge base in all aspects of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD -10-CM coding.
  • Supports clinical staff education in areas of CMS regulations, coding, billing, documentation, and administrative guidelines.
  • Attend department, clinic, or company meeting as required.
  • Monitor documentation and coding practices to identify and follow up on potential coding related compliance issues and/or missed revenue potential.
  • Regularly communicates with the healthcare providers to ensure documentation and coding reflects care rendered.
  • Reviews and research coding/billing issues.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required. Skills assessment maybe required to determine competency level of coding skills.
Experience: One (1) year of coding experience preferred but not required
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Research skills including knowledge of automated analysis tools and on-line research tools to resolve complex coding and healthcare issues.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately code diagnosis, and injection with a depth of knowledge in Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding within Orthopedic service line.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of HCPCS, ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively work within a team environment, using excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to share findings and compliance issues with coders, office managers, physicians, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data.
  • Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding and documentation
