Job Summary
The Nursing Informatics department at Michigan Medicine works collaboratively with all the Nursing, Allied Health Partners, Office of Clinical Informatics, and Health Information Technology and Services, across all patient care areas to assess, plan, integrate, and execute clinical technologies across patient care. This team helps develop policies, procedures, and workflows to enhance proficiency and effectiveness in a manner consistent with the enterprise-level model of care, ideal patient care experience, approved standards of care, utilizing informatics principles and tools, particularly in relation to the Electronic Health Record.
The Perioperative Services Clinical Business Systems Analyst Sr applies clinical experience & knowledge of intraoperative nursing standards & workflows to ensure Michigan Medicine?s MiChart (Epic) OpTime application meets the needs of service leads, intraoperative staff, and the Operating Rooms (OR) as a whole. This includes acting as a liaison between the Operating Rooms & HITS OpTime team to address regulatory requirements, institutional/departmental needs & documentation burden reduction. The Clinical Business Systems Analyst also collaborates with the Office of Clinical Affairs, Good Tissue, Manufacturing, and Laboratory Practices (GTMLP) Coordinator to validate that current allograft tissue policies, procedures & documentation meet the Joint Commission (TJC) standards and will pass intra-cycle monitoring & triennial surveys.
The Business System Analyst Sr?s activities promote quality, safety, efficiency & cost reduction for the Operating Rooms at all Michigan Medicine locations.
Responsibilities*
MiChart (Epic) OpTime
Conduct periodic review of OpTime Intraop Navigator sections; solicit improvement suggestions from end users & edit content as mandated by changes to policy/regulatory standards. Collaborate with OR Educational Nurse Coordinators (ENCs) & MiChart instructional designers/technical writers to maintain/create Intraop Tip Sheets & develop Intraop Navigator learning module Customize OpTime dashboard/tools/reports to meet Service Leads' needs Update/create DPC patient positioning templates as needed for Service Leads Review/update existing procedures (service/location authorizations, leveling, descriptions, aliases, default times, etc.) Request modifications to Case Request Order Sets as necessitated by changes to procedures & DPCs to ensure correct procedure selection > case booking > Epic algorithmic DPC selection Create/submit proofs for necessary changes to Implant worksheet, EBL/Count worksheet & lab requisitions Maintain Intraop one-step medication list according to standard format/nomenclature, route & unit of measure Assist Pharmacy Billing with intraoperative medication documentation/billing issues Support/prepare for MiChart upgrades, planned/unplanned downtime & Daylight-Saving Time changes
Supply Chain Activities
Review/update allograft tissue implant policies, procedures & documentation with GTMLP Plan, execute & collect end-user feedback for VA/VAT-directed OR product evaluations Identify & collaborate with clinical end users to assist Supply Chain with substitute/replacement product evaluation/selection in the event of back-orders/supply availability issues Evaluate custom procedure pack contents with vendor & end users to identify cost- & time-saving opportunities; submit content lists/new product requests as indicated Partner with Value Analysis to replace latex products with latex-free wherever feasible Identify redundant products for consolidation/cost reduction opportunities Reconcile ORMIS/PeopleSoft Product Categories. Create new PS categories in ORMIS in established format as needed; submit to OpTime Review RCAT & Item Master to confirm descriptions & product categories are correct for trackable tissue/devices, fresh/frozen tissue, implants, latex items, limited reuse devices, etc. Coordinate corrections with Item Maintenance to ensure category-driven reports pull complete implant & supply usage data. Assist with the catalog consolidation between ORMIS, PeopleSoft, and QSight.
Other Activities
Review/update allograft tissue implant policies, procedures & documentation with GTMLP Create/submit proofs for necessary changes to Implant worksheet, EBL/Count worksheet & lab requisitions Use ServiceNow to submit & track change requests Coordinate submission of annual Chemical Inventory from all OR sites Additional intraoperative quality/safety activities as needed Identify clinical end users to assist OR Supply Chain with selecting substitute products in the event of a back-order/supply availability issue
Required Qualifications*
Educational Requirement: BSN Minimum of 5 years of OR experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably knowledgeable in several services or sites Ability to work in a dynamic development environment and adjust to constant changing priorities, processes, and project plans. Experience with MiChart (Epic) OpTime, including but not limited to service lead responsibilities, familiarity with OR RN documentation requirements, experience with reporting and build formats.
Desired Qualifications*
Extensive experience in/knowledge of RN circulator role Demonstrated experience resolving complex integration issues involving multiple technologies and business areas. Participation in the Optime Users Committee and Super User Program Experience with understanding and documenting workflows and clinical processes, as well as creating solutions to support these processes. Demonstrated proficiency using electronic organization methods & software, particularly Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint Ability to work with large sets of data, either number or text, completing summaries or graphs Demonstrated accountability & dependability Demonstrated ability to promote professional, collegial, collaborative relationships & problem-solve with a multidisciplinary team Excellent verbal & written/electronic communication skills Current/recent participation in quality improvement initiatives Knowledge of OR supplies, equipment, and instrumentation
