RECREATION AIDE

Working Position Title: Outdoor Adventures Climbing Wall Monitor

Average Weekly Hours: 5-8

Minimum of 5 hours per week is required

Position Title: Outdoor Adventures Climbing Wall Monitor


Position Description

Outdoor Adventures consists of three main areas including our Outpost equipment rentals, the climbing wall and various trips and instructional workshops. Our climbing wall provides a unique and exciting workout for beginners or experienced climbers. As an employee with Outdoor Adventures, you will provide support, answers, and resources for participants using the climbing wall, renting equipment, or registering for a program. Staff will strive to create a fun and welcoming environment by providing top of the line customer service and educating customers on everything Outdoor Adventures and Recreation and Physical Education have to offer.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all Recreation and Physical Education and Outdoor Adventure policies and procedures
  • Promote the missions of Recreation and Physical Education and Outdoor Adventures
  • Attend staff meetings and all trainings
  • Monitor use of the Climbing Wall facility – ensuring that all climbers adhere to all policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Conduct general maintenance of the facility including organization of equipment, inventory, and cleaning as appropriate
  • Facilitating equipment rentals following operating procedures
  • Administer top-rope belay tests
  • Answering questions and educating renters on all OA offerings
  • Registering participants for Outdoor Adventure Trips
  • Provide assistance and resources for people looking to plan a personal trip
  • Maintain organization and overall cleanliness of climbing wall and all storage areas
  • Complete Incident Reports and submit maintenance reports as necessary
  • Supports and helps progress the university and department’s commitment to anti-racism and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must possess the desire to help others in an inclusive and open environment that encourages safety, education, service, and fun.
  • Ability to work with others, communicate clearly, and maintain a professional attitude
  • Basic knowledge of outdoor equipment is preferred
  • Display an outgoing and friendly personality
  • Commitment to learning and skill development
  • Ability to manage time and correspond with staff and patrons in a timely manner
  • Computer proficient and comfortable learning new software
  • Possess appropriate and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to think independently, be creative and work productively in a fast-paced environment

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires the ability to provide recreational assistance generally equivalent to a partial high school education.


Experience

None required. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
