At First Transit, our Monitors are a constant reflection of our company’s commitment to safety and customer service. The Bus Monitor is responsible for providing operational oversight, day-to-day management, and assists drivers in safe operation of routes.

Our Bus Monitor are responsible for:

  • Assists in pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus utilizing GEOTAB technology, including child checks.
  • Opens and closes service doors and moves up and down steps multiple times daily.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation from the bus, including use of exiting by emergency door.
  • Cleans the inside of the bus including sweeping, dusting and cleaning windows. Cleans outside windows of the bus.
  • Assists students in the loading and unloading process.
  • Other specialized functions as required by contract.
  • Communicates behavior problems and conditions of various stops with the driver. Cooperates and communicates with school personnel, parents and students.
  • Knows the route and remains alert to monitor the welfare of passengers while in route. Keeps order on the bus.
  • Attends all safety and training meetings.
  • Assists driver when necessary to safely direct the vehicle backwards.
  • Cooperates and communicates with school personnel, students, and parents.

To qualify as a Bus Monitor, you’ll need:

  • Good judgment/problem solving skills.
  • The ability to work early morning hours.
  • Ability to manage high degrees of stress.
  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety
