Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
The role is responsible for leading business development and growth for the Water Practice at Michael Baker International (Michael Baker). This position will reside within the focused Water Practice within the Moon Office and represents a dedicated business line that is focused on water supply, wastewater conveyance, stormwater collection and conveyance / green infrastructure as well as a full range of water resources engineering services. The successful candidate will be responsible for building Michael Baker International’s role throughout western Pennsylvania while supporting our project teams and client base that we service. As part of Michael Baker, the opportunity also exists for the successful candidate to interface with other water focused practices across the company to share resources and best practices across a larger water community.

This is a unique opportunity to oversee all aspects of a water/wastewater business with a diverse project / client base that has the potential for significant growth. At a practical day-to-day level, this role will be responsible for business development and the identification, pursuit and winning of projects across the United States, with a primary focus in the greater Pittsburgh and Great Lakes regions. It will require a person with a comprehensive understanding of the water & wastewater market and strong business relationships that can help Michael Baker use its depth and experience to create a competitive advantage.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the achieving net new work added (sales), revenue, and growth targets for the Geospatial service line.
  • Support other service lines that have existing client relationships and leverages those relationships in search of growth opportunities.
  • Be an innovative thinker, always considering the ‘next next’ for Water Practice Services
  • Ensure a close relationship with the business development and marketing resources in the Infrastructure vertical, to ensure opportunities and pursuits include (where appropriate) the best mix of teaming partners.
  • Provide exemplary leadership and serve as a role model for others.
  • Work closely with the Water Project Management staff for client engagement and development strategy, planning for resources on new opportunities, and creating a cohesive teaming environment for winning and delivering water & wastewater projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring every pursuit or campaign is appropriately resourced to maximize likelihood of success.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow client relationships for the purpose of acting as a client advocate, educator, and technical expert with the goal of executing services and product contracts.
  • Overall responsibility for the identification, pursuit and winning of water & wastewater projects
  • Remain highly visible in industry roles to maintain a high profile. Attend major conferences and present as a thought leader as appropriate.
  • Identify potential business development opportunities that are professionally challenging; bring recognition to Michael Baker on a local, regional, and national basis.
  • Ensure the opportunity pipeline is accurate and up to date.
  • Responsible for ensuring marketing and messaging aligns with campaigns and pursuits.
  • Connect/cross market other service lines within Infrastructure Services practice.
  • Support the development of strategic partnerships with key organizations such as WEF and AWWA to generate business and create a competitive advantage in pursuit and winning work

Critical Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive responsibility in business develop and/or client relations, of which at least 5 years was spent leading and growing project teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or related discipline required.
  • Experience with employee management, business development, writing proposals, Contract Negotiation, planning, design, and construction support services.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $149,000 to $246,000, depending on the experience and skillset of the candidate.
