Job Description

The ideal claims team member will be an analytical and creative problem solver. The claims team offers ongoing challenges, even for the most experienced professional, as every claim is unique, providing new opportunities to learn and grow. We welcome our ongoing interaction with underwriting, compliance and actuarial to keep our products healthy. Qualified candidate will have willingness to pursue continuing insurance education and adjuster licensing.

Essential Functions:
The Claims Intake Specialist is an entry level claims position with an opportunity to begin building a career in claims. Enters new loss information into appropriate claims application and creates electronic claim files; reviews and evaluates the incoming loss documents for complete and accurate information; receives first notice of loss, reviews and/or locates policies; validates coverage applied to claims to determine appropriate line of business and loss type; reviews applicable systems to determine presence of duplicate claims; validates and locates missing policy information; investigates to obtain information pertinent to claim setup and transfer; communicates with customers and policyholders; sends acknowledgement letters; and collaborates with team leaders and claims examiners.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to the essential functions, the person is expected to provide phone support as well as administrative support to the claims teams as needed. This position may also entail completion of special projects.​

Specific Skills:
Strong customer service mindset, oral and written communication skills, insightful analytical skills, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work as a team or individually. Proficient keyboard skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Technical knowledge of claim and insurance coverage will be developed during training and insurance coursework.

Minimum Job Requirements:
BA or BS College Degree

In response to the COVID19 pandemic, USLI is working toward returning to our physical offices. Our team members are currently working in a hybrid model with the goal of returning to 75% onsite employment for all community Members (unless job description indicates otherwise) as of June 2023.
