Job Description
Description Responsible for providing a safe and fun environment for children attending the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center drop in Child Care facility, primarily supervising the activities of children from the age of 6 months to 10 years. Salary: $17.00/hour Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Provide a safe and fun environment in which both children, as well as, parents feel comfortable; provide corrective action as needed; actively participate in activities attached to program. Responsible for completing and reporting accidents or injuries occurring in the assigned area; completing required forms for each child placed in and removed from the Child Care Room; calculate fees due for use of assigned facility and process according to procedure. Responsible for the enforcement of all child care policies, as well as, general building policies. Communicate with the supervisor concerning cleaning supplies and program material needed. Develop positive relations with customers; communicate recreation programs information to participants and parents. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Perform related work as required and assigned. Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the assigned Facility Supervisor. Supervision Exercised: None INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION: Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and well-defined standard practices requiring some authority to select which methods are applicable in any given situation. Virtually all work is reviewed regularly while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and quality. Matters not specifically covered in operating instructions are reviewed with the supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT: Work is performed primarily indoors. Work involves working closely with others, hearing, speaking, and writing. Lifting and carrying objects 25-50 pounds; pulling pushing, reaching, sitting, walking, standing, bending/stooping, twisting, squatting. Work requires reading, problem solving, reasoning, customer contact and the use of hands to fingers. Ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple concurrent tasks and constant interruptions. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge


  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job. Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of City and departmental rules and regulations; principles, practices, and techniques of modern child care work. Skills
  • Instruct and oversee a group of young children; lead games or activities for group; enforce safety regulations firmly; analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper courses of action to be taken; express ideas clearly and concisely; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public, and other agencies.   • Experience working with preschool and youth ages in a recreational/babysitting setting. or Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Supplemental Information Special Requirements: Must be 16 years of age. American Red Cross or American Heart Association Infant/Child/Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
