TheChief Operating Officer (COO)is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of a fully vertical cannabis company. This role requires a strategic and hands-on leader who can drive operational excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, optimize production processes, and contribute to the overall growth and success of the organization. The Chief Operating Officer will play a crucial role in driving the success of the Company’s operation. The COO will manage operations, ensure compliance, and optimize processes to drive the company's growth, profitability, and reputation within the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strong knowledge of cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and retail operations.
- Familiarity with compliance regulations and a track record of ensuring regulatory adherence.
- Stay up-to-date with cannabis industry regulations and ensure the company's operations consistently adhere to local, state, and federal compliance requirements.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strategic Planning:
- Work with the finance department to develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute the company's overall strategic plan.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance and consistent quality throughout all stages of the supply chain.
- Financial Management:
- Identify growth opportunities within the cannabis industry and make recommendations for expansion, diversification, or new markets.
- Manage the distribution process, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries to retail locations and/or end consumers.
- Risk Management:
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Collaborate with retail teams to optimize store operations, visual merchandising, and customer experiences.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
- Lead and manage cross-functional teams, including cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, retail, and administration, to ensure seamless operations.
- Production and Manufacturing:
- Monitor sales data and trends to make informed decisions related to product offerings and stock levels.
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in operations management, preferably within the cannabis industry or a highly regulated industry.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the company's overall goals and objectives.
- Oversee cultivation, extraction, processing, and manufacturing operations to ensure the consistent production of high-quality cannabis products.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Multi year in leadership positions a must
- Collaborate with cultivation and manufacturing teams to improve production techniques, yield, and product quality.
- Address any issues or challenges that arise in a timely and effective manner.
- Monitor and optimize key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Assess operational risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity and compliance with safety protocols.
- Operational Leadership:
- Recruit and onboard top talent to fill key operational roles as needed.
- Team Development:
- Manage inventory levels and supply chain processes to meet customer demands and avoid shortages.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements to maximize profitability.
Education And Skill Requirements
- Experience in Six Sigma, or LEAN manufacturing is highly desirable.
- 8+ years of operational experience within a manufacturing environment, with a minimum of three years’ supervisory experience
- Bachelor’s degree in management, manufacturing, or similar discipline
- Proven project and budget management experience with driven financial results
- Strong ERP systems experience required
- Knowledge of technical, scientific and regulatory principles related to the cannabis industry
- Experience with facilities oversight including physical infrastructure, maintenance, employee safety and security
Compensation:$125,000 – $175,000 plus full benefits
