THE ROLE

Reporting to the WMT Regional Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Operating Officer, the CNO provides leadership for nursing care, planning, promoting and implementing hospital-wide standardization, clinical integration and consolidation efforts to achieve a seamless continuum of care within the integrated delivery network. The CNO provides leadership and oversight for nursing clinical leadership and operational functions regarding satisfaction and quality initiatives, financial management and strategic planning. The CNO facilitates the design, implementation, and monitoring of selected processes to ensure accurate and consistent delivery of infrastructure support within nursing services. The CNO ensures that patient care, clinical and staffing standards are met. The CNO works to align the nursing staff with the mission, values and vision of the organization.

The position contributes to the organization's key outcomes in the following ways: Implements a culture within organizational groups that leads to greater excellence or continuous improvement; Leads the execution of business strategy; Aligns work group with the organization's vision; gains team commitment to related ideas and strategies; Manages business alliances/partnerships to create a win-win relationship and competitive advantage; Performs duties in a manner that reflects the Providence Mission, philosophy, Core Values and behavioral standards; Collaborates with other department leadership to integrate strategies and tactics operationally and programmatically to achieve a seamless approach to the organization wide strategic plan. Provides oversight and coaching to directors and manager, mentoring and providing feedback for further development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage Strategy: Establishes plans to execute organizational strategy by prioritizing and assigning tasks, resources, and accountabilities; Makes customers’ needs the primary focus when executing strategy; Analyzes information, generates alternatives, and commits to daily decisions that are consistent with the organization’s strategies; Analyzes and applies financial and industry data to maximize the impact of the organization’s strategies on market share.
  • Grow to meet community needs: Aggressive growth ; Coordination with other organizations ; Regional representation and communication.
  • Create enduring alignment with physicians and clinicians: Physician satisfaction and engagement relating to clinical operational issues in nursing in collaboration with Acute Medical officer; Collaboration with providers to continue development of standard care delivery models and continued improvement in care.
  • Lead High Performance Work Groups: Gains the trust of work groups by being honest and consistent, keeping commitments, exchanging ideas openly, and providing support; Provides timely guidance and feedback to help work groups improve their performance results; Builds a cohesive, high-performing work group by clarifying accountabilities, involving the group in decisions, and providing resources; Sets high standards and accountability for continuous improvement in work group performance; Inspires high levels of group performance by communicating and modeling the organization’s Mission and Values.
  • Align Work Group with New or Evolving Organizational Paradigms: Encourages the acceptance and execution of the organization’s vision; Influences others to commit to action that organizational vision; Establishes performance objectives, tracks and evaluates performance to align behavior with the organization’s vision; Communicates and models the organizational vision in a way that motivates others to take action toward that vision.
  • Model the Values and Behavioral Standards: Encourages the acceptance and execution of the organization’s Values and behavioral standards; Influences others to commit to action that supports the organization’s Values and behavioral standards; Establishes performance objectives, tracks and evaluates performance to align behavior with the organization’s Values ; Communicates and models the organization’s Mission, Values and behavioral standards in a way that motivates others to take action.
  • Transform delivery of clinical care: Achieve clinical outcome targets across the care continuum ; Formulation, implementation and monitoring of the nursing strategic plan in collaboration with the system office of nursing; Ongoing Magnet designation and all initiatives to support designation; Successful shared governance model: Establishes and supports an environment that gives nurses a voice in decision-making process and supports organizational, departmental and unit-based decisions to meet the needs and expectations of all stakeholders affected by those decisions; Patient satisfaction with nursing care; Promotes and leads utilization of evidence, literature and research to improve practice; Demonstrates a clear understanding of the care delivery and professional practice model of nursing, scope of practice and delivery of care within the scope.
  • Thrive under new reimbursement models: Expense reduction ; Value Based Purchasing ; In collaboration with managers and directors, monitors effectiveness of staffing models and management; Maintains and gains new knowledge in labor relations to improve relationships and operations with the bargaining unit.
  • Enhance access by improving affordability: Employee satisfaction ; Expense reduction .
  • Lead the Implementation of New Business Alliances/ Partnerships: Pursues opportunities to build mutually beneficial relationships with strategic business partners; Persuades business or alliance partners to take action that will enhance the organization’s competitive advantage; Gains the trust of business partners by being honest and consistent, keeping commitments, exchanging ideas openly, and treating them with respect.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required experience/education for this position include:

  • Demonstrates problem solving skills
  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience related to the areas of responsibility
  • 3 years of management experience
  • Demonstrates a high commitment to quality.
  • Upon hire: Montana Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Public Affairs, Health Administration or other related field
  • Effective coaches and delivers constructive feedback

Preferred experience/education for this position include:

  • Experience with achieving and sustaining Magnet certification.
  • Ph.D. Nursing
  • Clinical background/experience in area of responsibility
