Chemical Process Engineer

JOB SUMMARY: The Chemical Process Engineer will be responsible for leading processes improvements and MRB dispositions to prevent corrosion, staining, discoloration and pitting on metal surfaces. This role will serve as matter expert of surface treatment process such as plating, oil rust protection, passivation, as well as the chemical reactions that might cause metal degradation. The chemical process engineer will support our passivation and Nondestructive NADCAP audits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Visiting NHBB suppliers to provide recommendations of process improvement on surface treatments issues.
• Generate and deliver technical presentations
• Support NADCAP passivation and nondestructive audits and applicable compliance.
• Leading the processes improvement to eliminate corrosion, staining, discoloration and pitting , as well as creating control plans and applicable strategies
• The Chemical Process Engineer will apply chemical, surface, and materials engineering principles to improve procedures on material handling, plating, passivation , etc
• Create training and procedures on inspection techniques of surface treated product.
• Participate in the disposition of non-conformance product and Corrective Action processes linked to degradation of material surfaces
• Review on chemical processing, material and methods for application of passivation, nondestructive testing and plating processes
• Improve key quality metrics of scrap and rework by implementing and supporting lean and continuous improvement activities.

Job Skills and abilities:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Direct experience with the use of spreadsheet and database software to compile, analyze and present data.
• Experience with metal and chemical processing and surface preparation techniques
• Broad knowledge of corrosion and other environmental degradation mechanisms
• Able to solve complex problems; makes decisions based on analysis of multiple sources of information.
• Experience with material characterization and failure analysis techniques
• Experience creating and revising material and process specifications, reports, and test plans
• Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion.
• Ability to execute tasks with minimal oversight
• Strong attention to detail
• Capability to act independently as a technical expert and also to lead and mentor small teams when needed
• Familiarity with process improvement methodologies (six sigma, lean manufacturing)
• Experience/familiarity with chemical and heat treatment NADCAP compliance
• Demonstrated ability to solve highly technical problems

Education / Experience Required:

• Six sigma green or black belt certified is preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience on surface treatment such as passivation, plating, coating; and leading projects to eliminate of corrosion, pitting and stains on metal surfaces.
• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related discipline
• Project management experience is a plus

Pay Scale:

$90K - $115K annual salary DOE

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Possess a sense of urgency
• Able to be flexible and respond to the changing needs of the organization

Note: Physical job requirements may include standing, use of hands to assemble and or carry out job functions as well as sitting, lifting, carrying, bending and stooping during the course of the job.
Ability to lift 40 lbs.
