Chemical Engineer

TDA Research, Inc., located outside Denver, Colorado with research offices in Wheat Ridge and Golden, is seeking a Chemical Engineer. The company has a staff of over 100, which consists of mainly engineers and scientists who develop cutting edge chemical processes, materials, and hardware for customers in the defense, aerospace, energy and chemical industries. We rely on a high level of technical competence and efficiency within our team and look for motivated, talented, and skilled innovators to join us in supporting the mission of the company. An ability to learn quickly is essential as needs change constantly.

The ideal candidate would have a B.S. in chemical engineering and zero to five years of experience in a chemical industry or R&D environment. This person will perform a variety of research and development tasks in a chemical and analytical laboratory under the direction of a senior engineer, including preparing solutions, using analytical tools to identify products, and constructing and testing device prototypes. The candidate should have a solid background in reaction and laboratory fundamentals, experimental design, and experience carrying out experiments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data and prepare experimental and quality control reports
  • Use analytical methods to identify products and quantify the composition of product mixtures, such as GC, HPLC, NMR, FTIR and UV/VIS spectroscopy
  • Keep detailed records
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot devices, equipment, and control systems
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement in R&D projects
  • Follow detailed instructions when performing established experimental methods
  • Execute safe and effective chemical handling techniques
  • Create safety documents, submit documentation for safety approval

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent chemical hygiene
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with prototype fabrication techniques such as 3D printing and machine shop operation
  • Experience with microcontroller platforms, such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, and electronic hardware

Physical Demands:

  • Lift 40 pounds
  • Sit, stand, or kneel for extended periods of time
  • Ascend and descend stairs and ladders

TDA carries out R&D in catalysis and adsorption, medical devices, aerospace components, and personal protective equipment. TDA’s objective is to carry out research that leads to commercial products; several products that are the result of our research have gone into production or large-scale use, and others are nearing commercialization. Most staff work on two or three projects simultaneously; therefore, an ability to learn quickly is essential. Recent graduates applying for this opening should include their GPA and undergraduate research experience in their resume.

Annual salary range: $65,000 to $90,000 plus the complete benefits package.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors as education, experience, skill set, and/or location.
