  • Offers prayer services during staff events, dedications as appropriate.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with community clergy, patients, family and staff.
  • Responsible for use, management, and maintenance of respective chapels.
  • Develops a relationship with critically ill patients or dying patients and their families.
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor as needed.
  • Relates basic information to newly admitted patients and evaluates basic spiritual needs
  • Participates in Ethics Committee.
  • Visits patients daily to offer spiritual care.
  • Attends/ conducts "last rites" or funeral rituals for a deceased patient where pastorally appropriate.
  • Provide daily/holiday services for patient, their families and staff.
  • Engages in formal and informal pastoral counseling.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings to function as a part of the interdisciplinary team
  • Attends to grief ministry at the death of a patient.
  • Provides end of life and bereavement care for patient, families and staff.
  • Conduct in-service seminars as needed.
  • Refers to other members of the health care and chaplaincy team when patient's needs dictate.
  • Responds to "Code Blue" emergency calls in person.
  • Prays with and for patients, their families and staff.
  • Conducts weekly spiritual recovery presentation and groups in behavioral health.
  • Responds to mandated "on call" assignments during a declared emergency
  • Provides daily sacramental needs of patients and families when appropriate.
  • Attends to pastoral care needs of family, visitors and hospital staff when appropriate.

Responsibilities


1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Divinity, Islamic Studies, Sacred Theology, or a related discipline, and a documented letter of endorsement from within the last six (6) months from a faith-based institution affiliated with the appropriate denomination (see note below), and
a. Documented completion of four (4) Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units (i.e., 1,600 hours of clinical pastoral training), or current and valid chaplain certification issued by the Association for Professional Chaplains (APC) Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc. (BCCI), the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Neshama: National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or an equivalent; or
b. One (1) year of community-based experience as a recognized spiritual/religious leader.
Note: A documented letter of endorsement may be substituted by an academic degree or chaplain certification endorsed within the last six (6) months by a faith-based institution affiliated with the appropriate denomination. The documented letter of endorsement or its substitute must be dated within six (6) months prior to the date of hire.
