General Summary of Position
Provide basic patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
Experience
- 1-2 years Experience in a hospital, nursing home, home health aide environment preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Certified Nursing Assistant Certification required and
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR Certification required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
- Working knowledge on the following Safe Lift Equipment: Viking, Sabina, Ergoslide, Hoyer lifts, and Golvo. Gaitbelts, vital signs machine, and weighing scales.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Exhibits professionalism, courtesy and excellent customer service, while interacting with patients, guests and co-workers.
- Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
- Ability to provide and maintain patient/customer privacy at all times.
- Respects rights and dignity of all patients.
- Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission, values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Follow infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms.
- Supply and empty bed pans.
- Transport patients and equipment as needed.
- Record amount of oral intake and measure urinary output.
- Change bed linens.
- Collect specimens for tests making sure they are labeled and transported properly.
- Accu-check monitoring
- Aware patient fall prevention interventions and able to identify patients at risk for fall.
- Provides post- mortem care and transporting the body to the morgue.
- Provide direct patient care such as assisting with bathing, eating, dressing, and walking patients.
- Take vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, pulse ox and respiratory rate) and report any abnormalities to the nurse in charge of patient and record legibly on nursing flow sheets
- Turn and reposition bedridden patients to prevent breakdown of their skin.
