Compensation:

  • Hourly Pay Range: $15.75 + $.50 shift differential for qualifying hours.
  • This position is eligible for a temporary $8.50 per hour shift differential for all hours worked. This differential is only temporary and can end at the Governors discretion at any time.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The Kansas Soldiers’ Home at Fort Dodge is looking for a dependable individual to work as a full-time Certified Medication Aide, on our evening shift in our Domiciliary. Our residents are looking for people, who are friendly, attend work on time as scheduled and who want to be a part of the well-being of our Veterans.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Checks all assigned residents at end of shift to make sure they are clean, dry and comfortable.
  • Measures and records input and output.
  • Answers call lights and provides assistance.
  • Turns and repositions every 2 hours.
  • Keeps bedside and room clean and clear of clutter to provide aesthetic and safe environment.
  • Reports immediately, to the charge nurse, anything unusual regarding residents.
  • Support residents with activities of daily living by assisting with oral care, bathing, toileting, turning, nutrition, etc.
  • Places and removes protective or assistive devices.
  • Obtains and records vital signs, height and weight as requested.
  • Administers prescribed medications including; oral, topical, and rectal as well as prescribed treatments such as dressing changes, accucheck glucose monitoring, or enter all nutrition administration in accordance with Physician’s orders and in compliance with specific procedures.
  • Check residents to assure their safety, cleanliness, and comfort.
  • Collects specimens.
  • Completes required documentation of ADL’s.
  • Completes required documentation for medication administration.


Qualifications:

Education

  • General Education


Licensing & Certification

  • Valid Kansas Certified Nurse Aide Certification
  • Valid Kansas Medication Aide Certification


Minimum Qualifications

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents.
  • Certification as a Nurse Aide at time of hire pursuant to K.A.R. 28-39-165.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; read and comprehend written materials to include rules, regulations and procedures,
  • Certification as a Medication Aide at time of hire pursuant to K.A.R. 26-50-30.
  • Ability to: report to work as scheduled and remain on duty,
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and staff,
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and


Preferred Qualifications

  • Six months experience working in a long term care setting

  • As authorized by the 2018 Kansas Legislature, effective July 1, 2018, K.S.A. 75-4362 is amended to designate all positions with the Kansas Commission on Veterans’ Affairs office, to include both the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and Kansas Veterans’ Home as Safety Sensitive positions and subject to the drug testing program. All applicants with a conditional offer of employment on or after July 1, 2018, shall be required to submit to a drug screening test.
