Job Summary

Central Washington University is recruiting Certified Flight Instructors to join our Aviation team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team as they help educate future aviators for the University and beyond. The role is a campus-based position, which means you get to see the lives you are impacting. We're offering a salary, depending on experience, up to $3,194.86 per month if a 40 hour work week is met plus the awesome CWU benefits.

The Role:

The principle function of the Certified Flight Instructors is to accomplish safe, efficient and student-satisfying flight training that complies with University policies and procedures and FAA regulations. All employees are expected to support CWU’s commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.

Job Duties

  • Meets with each student as published on schedule; ensures that all flight lessons are completed according to the Training Course Outline specifications; ensures that all appropriated endorsements are made in the student’s flight book and personal logbook
  • Submits requests for stage checks upon completion of each stage of flight training with Chief Flight Instructor; ensures that all flight lessons and flight books are completed before request for stage check
  • Ensures that all training activities, flights, and briefings are conducted in a timely fashion and during normal business hours
- Ensures safety of flight training activities by routinely performing pre- and post-flight checks of aircraft
  • Assists in recruitment functions to attract new students to the aviation program
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Participates in ongoing training to maintain proficiency and to increase instructing credentials
  • Meets with supervisors on a regular basis to evaluate student performance and progress

Minimum Qualifications

  • Meet the recent flight experience requirements of 61.56 and 61.57 to carry passengers and hold the minimum required instrument experience listed in 61.57 © or completed an instrument proficiency check within the last six months
  • Current certification required (indicate date of current issue)
  • Current Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI)
    • Airplane Single Engine (indicate dates of first issue)

  • No restrictions that would prevent performance of flight duties assigned by the CWU or performance of normal non-flying flight line activities

  • U.S. Commercial Pilot Certificate or ATP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in turbo-prop or jet aircraft
  • Certified Flight Instructor with Multiengine (CFI MEI)
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion
  • Experience working with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Experience with KLN89B's, Avidyne Entegra PFD, Garmin 430, Garmin G1000
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Certified Flight Instructor with Instrument Airplane (CFII)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
  • Prior experience in the following aircraft: C-172 , Piper Warrior, Piper Seminole, Piper Archer, Diamond Aircraft
  • Potential to mentor and educate students who will serve diverse populations

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: up to $3,194.86 per month if a 40 hour work week is met. This will be disbursed twice monthly (semimonthly). If full-time (40 hour work week) is not attained due to variables such as weather, aircraft availability, etc., your semimonthly rate of pay will be reduced and will reflect the number of hours worked. This is an overtime eligible position; and you are eligible for overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a work week.

Schedule/Appointment: Up to 40 hours per week / Hours may vary / 9.5 month cyclic appointment

Working Conditions
: This position may work indoors and outdoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, aircraft cockpits, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required, and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
