Position Overview

The Division of Family & Community Services is seeking to hire an energetic and detail-oriented Casework Manager to supervise staff in the Alton Call Center. The position supervises and administers the activities of professional and technical staff providing the full range of social and welfare casework services to applicants or recipients of public assistance. The Division helps Illinois residents by connecting them with many programs and services. Through our programs, services and prevention efforts, the Division improves the health and well-being of individuals and promotes self-sufficiency and integrity of families of Illinois

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
  • Serves as a working supervisor.
  • Establishes and maintains effective public relations with employers and other interested parties in the local area served.
  • Implements and interprets new initiatives related to welfare reform.
  • Interprets, explains, and implements new policies and procedures or changes in existing policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a Casework Manager for the Division of Family and Community Services (FCS).
  • Reviews and evaluates reports of casework activities.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires two (2) years professional supervisory experience in a public welfare agency.
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with courses in social science or business.

OR

Three (3) years professional experience in welfare, teaching, public health, or other public services.

OR

Completion of an agency-sponsored management internship program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of professional experience working with policies, procedures, and related federal acts for a public or private organization
  • Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing social casework methods, techniques, and principles, including reviewing, and evaluating casework activities.
  • Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff and approving time off.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing policies, procedures and goals of public assistance programs and welfare reform.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience establishing and maintaining effective public relations with employers and other interested parties in the local area served.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in a public assistance eligibility system such as Integrated Eligibility Systems (IES).

Conditions of Employment

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
  • Requires the ability to travel.
