Job Description

YOUTH BUILD CASE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION


Role Summary

The Case Manager assists participants in the Medici Road YouthBuild program to overcome barriers to attendance and retention through case management and counseling. They will also coordinate services for court-involved youth and young parents as well as case management for alumni at the follow-up stage of the Program. Reports to the Program Director.

About the YouthBuild Program

YouthBuild is a program that involves unemployed young adults in building affordable housing in their communities. It gives youth, ages 16–24, skills in the construction trades coupled with academic and soft skills training that will lead to a GED. This program also includes counseling, peer support groups, extracurricular activities, and job placement. Another central element is the building of youth leadership skills through leadership training, program decision making and involvement in community issues. Between 2023 and 2026, Medici Road will be implementing this program for 80 youths with a focus on DC’s neighborhoods where youth unemployment rates are highest.




Primary Responsibilities

  • Conducting orientation sessions for new Program participants and ensuring their smooth onboarding into the Program.
  • Supporting the interviewing and evaluation process for the Program and capturing participant feedback and learning outcomes.
  • Arranging and disseminating resources, schedules and resources needed by all participants for the successful completion of the Program.
  • Coordinating with the Program Director to ensure the regular facilitation of follow-up activities with former participants.
  • Ensuring timely submission of relevant reports in compliance with grant requirements.
  • Collaborating with the Director to create a student environment and culture that is conducive for personal and professional transformation.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques and culturally relevant methods of connecting to relate and build trust with the youth.
  • Overseeing file and case management for youths within the Program training, while assessing their unique needs, developing and maintaining a compassionate, motivating, and invested relationship with them as you monitor their progress or challenges in the Program.
  • Maintaining consistent tracking and follow up, in accordance with a chart of risk factors and needs for all participants for a minimum of one year.
  • Create external partnerships with community partners to establish a resource portal for participants for access to wrap around services.
  • Supporting participants’ transition out of the Program and into a new job role, providing resources needed for this phase.
  • Maintains relationships with external supports, including probation and parole officers, other case managers and support providers to ensure continuity of support.
  • Maintaining and reporting participant records by reviewing case notes and logging progress or obstacles that might hinder Program completion.
  • Serving as first point of contact for all Program participants and documenting their needs for proper attention by the Program team until they are resolved.

  • Familiarity with WIOA programs is an added advantage

  • Strong documentation skills and use of digital tools for that purpose
  • Ability to connect with youth and inspire hope, transformation and change.
  • Excellent listening and written communication skills.


Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in client management, stakeholder management, counseling, or other forms of social services. Experience with youth development programs represents a significant bonus.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, public administration, or related field.
  • Strong commitment to the YBPA Coalition's mission.
  • Recognized expertise in a range of written and verbal communications efforts.
  • Demonstrated interest in youth development
  • Ability to multi-task in complex work environments with a range of partners/ stakeholders
  • Must live in DC or be willing to relocate within 30 days of accepting an offer.
