About The Position
The Environmental Engineer / Scientist position is responsible for providing a variety of environmental services and support for energy delivery, gas, and electric generation for Ameren Missouri The Environmental Engineer / Scientist provides technical oversight, project management, interprets regulations, interfaces with regulators and senior corporate leaders, and helps shape a balanced corporate environmental policy to the benefit of customers, coworkers, and other corporate stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Conduct periodic environmental compliance reviews. Perform data analysis, interpret results and work with operating groups to develop corrective actions that help ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and prepare management and regulatory compliance reports as required.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of environmental regulatory programs associated with waste management, excavation spoils management, and environmental monitoring typically associated with utility construction and operation.
  • Prepare and deliver training and guidance to Company staff regarding compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Provide project management/coordination for waste management activities, including solid and hazardous waste management, excavation spoils management and respond to requests for non-routine environmental compliance issues that may arise during utility operations.
  • Provide project management/coordination for permitting and/or regulatory approvals required by various regulatory authorities such as EPA, USACE, USFWS, IEPA, IDNR, MDNR or other federal or state agencies.
  • Provide operational support by reviewing, interpreting, communicating and helping implement pertinent environmental regulations.
  • Support a variety of environmental subject areas including waste management, spill response, excavation spoils management, Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR), and due diligence for property transactions.
  • Conduct environmental site assessments, including collection of soil, water, and waste samples. Sampling activities may include the use of shovels, trowels, and other hand tools.
  • Interface with outside contractors and internal departments (Legal, Generation, Energy Delivery, and Engineering) as part of the planning, data collection, permit preparation process and report generation process.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, environmental science, or related field from an accredited college or university required. Three years or more of related experience preferred. Experience with Toxic Substances Control Act or Resource Conservation and Recovery Act regulations is preferred. Professional Engineering licensure in Missouri (or the ability to attain licensure within 6 months) preferred.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Experience in working with electric utility industry projects preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience with permitting, rule interpretation and industry knowledge of Utility Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) work. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with solid waste (hazardous, special, and general) and the associated RCRA and other state and federal requirements. Working knowledge of PC based spreadsheet, data analysis, database development, operation, and word processing software required. Someone with an Engineering degree would be hired into the Engineering Tech Path. Candidates with other experience would align with the appropriate Environmental Scientist career path level (which is in similar to the engineering tech path). Travel between Ameren facilities is required. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
