Career & Academic Planning Advisor

Overview

The Career & Academic Planning Advisor must be a compassionate and student-centered individual who serves as the primary point of student contact for integrated career and academic planning. Most of this meaningful work is face to face with some opportunity for remote work. This 10-month position includes benefits.

Job Responsibilities

1. Counsel and advise students from prospective student through graduation – individually and in groups, on issues related to planning an academic program, personal development, and identifying educational and career goals. (70%)
2. Employ vocational assessment instruments where appropriate; assist students in the use of existing resources for learning about academic programs and careers of interest to them; assist with career programs and services as needed. (10%)
3. Meet with prospective and admitted students and their parents/family members during appropriate campus programs, e.g., Open House, Orientation, etc. (less than 5%)
4. Provide information to students and parents on specific programs, and make referrals where appropriate, for services offered either by the University or by outside organizations for the benefit of the individual. (less than 5%)
5. Review and respond on a daily basis to case notes in CRM and email. (10%)
6. Prepare, organize, and maintain appropriate resources, reports and statistical summaries as needed. (less than 5%)
7. Collaborate with and assess performance of assigned student Peer Mentors. (less than 5%)
8. Participate in professional development activities as required; serve on committees as assigned. (less than 5%)
9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

1. Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, related to counseling, human development or education preferred but not mandatory.
2. Experience working with young adults from diverse backgrounds
3. Demonstrated ability to use online tools
4. Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills

Dynamic and flexible work environment with shared work space located centrally and outreach programming at different sites on campus or in the community.

Work Hours

35 hours per week, 10-month position. Ability to work nontraditional work hours including evenings, holidays or weekends as needed.
