Camp Levine Teaching Positions

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Teacher

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes consist of music/circle time, creating art projects, movement, reading stories, and outdoor play for children ages 4-5. Teachers work with the same group of 8-10 campers daily. Most PreK/K teachers work a full day (9-4pm) but half-day assignments are possible. Early childhood/elementary teaching experience required. Orff, Kodaly, Montessori, and/or Steiner training is a plus.

Choral/Vocal Music Teacher

The Choral/Vocal Music Teacher works with 20-25 campers in grades 1-6. Choral classes involve warm-ups and group singing which relates to the camp theme and promotes healthy vocal technique. The teacher is responsible for selecting and preparing the choral/vocal music used during the musical theatre performance. Choral/vocal music teachers should collaborate closely with the dance and drama teachers to ensure that the music offers opportunities for choreography and that all music works thematically with the created script.

Choral/Vocal Music is an afternoon position which can be combined with teaching a morning class to create a full day position.

Instrument Teacher

Instrumental faculty work with multiple ages at camp, providing group lessons and a “meet the instrument” experience for our youngest campers. All Instrument teachers oversee the following classes:

Morning Sing – Instrumental faculty accompany our full-camp morning sing as a reduced pit orchestra.

Focus Instrument – These small group classes consist of students in grades 3-6. Campers in focus instrument classes are beginners on their instrument. Focus instrument classes meet daily for 30-40 minutes. Instrumental teachers introduce foundational aspects of the instrument and assist campers in preparing a piece for the final all-camp performance.

Instrument Sampler – These introductory classes are held for campers in grades 1-2 in order to expose younger campers to different instruments and allow supervised hands-on experience with the instrument when appropriate. Teachers work with different small groups throughout the session.

Meet the instruments – Each instrument faculty member will visit a Pre/K classroom up to three times over the course of a session to introduce the youngest campers to their instrument.

Openings in cello, violin, piano, flute, guitar, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, percussion, and harp teachers may be available (not all positions may be available/open at all sites).

Instrument faculty positions take place in the morning at camp. These positions can be combined with teaching an afternoon class to create a full day position.

Music+ Teacher

Music+ is a general music class for campers ages 6-12, grouped by age. Music+ teachers design lesson plans to introduce campers to a range of topics, incorporating the camp theme when possible. Music+ teachers will work with each class to prepare a selection for the all-camp performance.

Additionally, Music+ teachers lead our all-camp “Morning Sing” daily. Music+ teachers select repertoire for Morning Sing from Camp Levine’s teacher resources and teach campers the songs by rote.

Teachers should feel comfortable leading large groups in song and experience and comfort teaching Orff instruments in Music+ is preferred.

Music+ is a morning class which can be combined with teaching an afternoon class to create a full day position.

Dance Teacher

Dance classes involve physical warm-ups and guided choreography appropriate to the campers’ level of experience. The dance teacher is responsible for choreographing musical numbers that relate to the camp theme and will be integrated into the musical theatre performance. Dance teachers should collaborate closely with the choral/vocal music and drama teachers to ensure that the dances work thematically with the music and script.

Dance is an afternoon class and the position can be combined with teaching a morning class to create a full day position.

Drama Teacher

Drama classes introduce campers in grades 1-6 to elements of theatre and acting techniques, incorporating games and improvisation activities. The drama teacher is responsible for creating the script for the musical theatre performance and collaborating closely with the choral/vocal music and dance teachers to ensure that all elements work thematically.

Drama is an afternoon class and the position can be combined with teaching a morning class to create a full day position.

Before Care is open to campers of all ages and campers may arrive at any time between 8-9:15am. Before Care teachers ensure that a variety of structured/unstructured activities are available to campers while ensuring safety within the classroom. Before Care teachers lead campers to their group class at 9:20 AM.

After Care Teacher

After Care takes place from 3:45pm-6:00pm following the structured camp date. After Care teachers ensure that a variety of structured/unstructured activities are available to campers while ensuring safety within the classroom. Campers range in age from preK to grade 6. Families may pick up their camper at any time between 4:00-6:00pm and After Care teachers ensure that the caregiver picking up is authorized to sign out the child.

After Care teachers may teach morning and afternoon classes to create a full day assignment.

Songwriting & Composition Teacher

Songwriting and Composition teachers instruct campers in grades 1-6. Class sizes can range from 10-14 campers, and each camp group will attend Songwriting & Composition every other day. The teacher may introduce musical notation, elements of musical composition and structure, and guide campers in writing their own music.

Songwriting and Composition is an afternoon position which can be combined with a morning class to create a full day position.
