Adaptive Optics Xinetics (AOX), a wholly owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Unit, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications. We are seeking a CAD Designer to support our Mechanical Engineering Special Programs team in East Hartford, CT.

Overview:

Reporting to the Special Programs Mechanical Engineering Manager, the CAD Designer will perform a variety of duties assisting Mechanical Engineers in the development of mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, assemblies, components and fixturing. This position provides an exciting technical opportunity in a high-growth, strategically important business for NGSP. We are looking for an individual with exceptional people skills. Our ideal candidate will motivate peers to improve processes and products, has excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. They must have a record of a collaborative approach with peers/peer organizations. Specifically, the details of the position are the following:

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize computer-aided design equipment to design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposal. Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications
  • Support the mechanical engineering department on multiple projects through all phases of development and manufacturing
  • Develop and/or mature Engineer's CAD models for evaluation of designs and interfaces, produce detail and assembly drawings, with parts lists, in accordance with AMSE Y14.5, ASME Y14.100 and AOX drawing standards using SolidWorks.
  • Work with other internal departments, and/or representatives of outside organizations

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship is a requirement for employment as candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Require limited supervision, manage routine work with general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments.
  • Ability to communicate status of project tasks
  • Ability to resolve most questions and problems, and refer complex questions to Engineers.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 year’s additional education and/or related experience.
  • Responsible self-starter and team player with mechanical or manufacturing experience
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced, highly technical work environment
  • Intermediate-Advanced SolidWorks (or equivalent) software skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, with high attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint software
  • Knowledge of Mechanical design principles including materials, finishes, tolerances, fabrication and assembly techniques, and documentation control.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Familiar with the use of GD&T
  • CAD Administration experience is a plus
  • PDM experience
  • Custom electrical and/or optical cable documentation experience

Salary Range: $67,100 USD - $111,900 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
