What You’ll Do
Develops the merchandise assortments that drive sales by focusing on product selection, product development, department trends and international sourcing. Collaborates closely with Planning and Distribution, Visual Merchandising, Store Operations and the Distribution Centers. Responsible for the professional development of one or more Assistant Buyers.
  • Identify trends and maximize growth opportunities.
  • Manage vendor and agents to ensure the best possible pricing.
  • Work Location: Hybrid. You will spend up to 3 days per week on average at our Alameda, CA Home Office.
  • Collaborate with the Planning and Distribution team on financial projections, including sales and markdowns.
  • Determine advertising proposals and projections for multi media and in store promotions.
  • Maintain communication with the stores.
  • Partner with Visual Merchandising on schematic guidelines.
  • Develop and acquire merchandise through foreign and domestic travel.
  • Strategic planning following the retail merchandising calendar.
  • Achieve or exceed department sales, margin and turnover objectives.
  • Manage the professional development of one or more Assistant Buyers.
What You’ll Bring
  • Qualified applicants with criminal histories will be considered for employment consistent with the requirements of all applicable law.
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills.
  • Travel required: international travel 3-5 times per year and domestic travel 1-2 times per year.
  • Excellent planning and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills; trend forecasting and item management.
  • Lifting and moving boxes of samples – 1-3 hours per week.
  • Ability to identify, develop and manage existing business and spot future trends.
  • Experience with Merchandising software systems; AS400
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years buying experience with a multi unit retailer including domestic or foreign travel.
  • Proven ability to develop subordinates.
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Excel and Windows.
  • Creative problem solving and risk taking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

CA Pay Range is $115,000-$150,000 annually
