SUMMARY OF POSITION

We are seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to help with developing and supporting our IT infrastructure and reporting processes to meet the information needs of our expanding company. This is a key position that ensures our data is precise, available, and actionable, empowering the organization to make informed decisions quickly. We are looking for a candidate who can proficiently employ the skills required for both development and analysis to effectively implement a range of business intelligence strategies and tools.

Ideal candidates should possess advanced technical knowledge, excellent communication abilities, and a willingness to support Business Intelligence requirements throughout the entire data ecosystem. This role will have responsibilities ranging from business Intelligence project planning and strategy, configuring source connections and APIs, overseeing data warehouse requirements, manipulating data using SQL queries and ETL tools, creating standardized Power BI data models and datasets, and providing end-user support as a Center of Excellence resource.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with application subject matter experts and business stakeholders to identify the required fields, schemas, and the business logic needed for data transformation as needed to achieve desired insights.

• Orchestrate and support the dependable integration of data from multiple sources, such as databases, SaaS applications, and spreadsheets, into the data warehouse and ultimately to end-user reports.

• Collaborate with ETL engineering team members to ensure the creation and maintenance of efficient and timely ETL processes for transferring data from source systems into the data warehouse.

• Optimize, enhance, and maintain cloud and on-premises data warehouses for performance and scalability. Tasks may include database tuning, permissions, and monitoring load, performance, and costs.

• Ensure that the BI infrastructure is secure, and that data is protected from unauthorized access and meets external and internal privacy requirements.

• Design, develop, and support Power BI data models and calculated measures to form the foundational ‘gold’ datasets in our self-service BI platform.

• Ensure Power BI data models, calculated measures, and M queries are optimized for performance and can support complex data analysis.

• Analyze and reverse engineer existing solutions when required and re-develop using industry-standard best practices.

• Provide support for citizen Power BI developers as a Center of Excellence resource.

• Help improve performance and reduce load times for Power BI reports and dashboards by tuning database queries, configuring incremental loads, and optimizing DAX calculations.

• Create and maintain Business Intelligence documentation and data dictionary.

• Stay informed on data technology trends and provide recommendations for future actions.

• Serve as a technology liaison and provide expert evaluation regarding potential external data tools and applications for consideration.

• Travel occasionally to locations as necessary and work outside of regular hours as required.

• Support quality and compliance by adhering to all procedures, work instructions, and forms per the Quality Management Systems (QMS)

• Participate in after-hours support for the production environment, including on-call support. This will include supporting upgrades or troubleshooting activities that must take place outside business hours.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills

• Experience with cloud systems, Power BI DAX and data modeling, SQL, and data warehousing is a must

• Self-starter than can work autonomously while still delivering expected results.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of experience in Business Intelligence development.

• Working knowledge of manufacturing ERP systems.

• Working knowledge of ingesting data from SaaS systems, but extra points if experience with any of the following: Aptean M2M, Salesforce, WorkDay, OneStream, EtQ, QMS, or ComplianceWire.

• Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools, such as Jira, GitHub, and Power BI development
