Overview


The Research Informatics Operations (RIO) team is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic business analyst to coordinate and support the information system needs of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) research community. The incumbent will participate in the design, development, implementation, and support of the overall clinical trial support operations program at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) utilizing various vendor and in-house developed systems, including enterprise-wide systems, to meet the changing needs of the scientific and clinical research community.


Incumbent will join the Client Services, Customer Experience Operations team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), part of the Research Informatics Operations (RIO) Department. Incumbent will work on medium and large sized projects, including implementation of new software systems to support clinical research, support of high-profile users, and collaboration in re-engineering and developing new business processes to support DF/HCC’s need for automation and process development for new clinical trials management initiatives and basic science. Incumbent will also support day-to-day usage of RIO applications and provide education on system workflows and functionality. Incumbent will serve as mentor and resource for junior staff in providing education on workflows and system functionality. The incumbent must be able to create and maintain healthy working relationships with end users, DF/HCC and site leadership.


The mission of the Client Services Team is to support the operations of the clinical trials program at DF/HCC, including but not limited to clinical trial management, grant development, and biospecimen banking. Applications supported by RIO interface to site-specific and enterprise-wide systems. RIO is a subdivision of the DFCI Research Informatics and Analytics department led by the Chief Health Information Officer. RIO is a significant component of the Clinical Research Support Unit for the DF/HCC consortium and specifically addresses the growing technological needs of the clinical trials research community. The office provides a collaborative, responsive, integrated and focused approach to all aspects of systems development and support. The DF/HCC is comprised of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. RIO supports clinical trials research informatics systems for the DF/HCC member institutions with regards to oncology research.

Responsibilities


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or needed.
  • Learn and utilize new products and tools, as appropriate, to successfully complete work assignments
  • Effectively balance the needs of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center amongst various stakeholders.
  • Follow project management lifecycle in accordance with DFCI, DF/HCC, MGB, and group specific standards
  • Manage medium to large sized projects from inception to completion (team communication, timelines, signoffs, scope changes, etc.)
  • Utilize Dana-Farber Cancer Institute values to govern decisions, actions and behaviors.
  • Actively participate in and support team culture.
  • Document daily activities, progress and workload metrics
  • Serve as an exemplary representative of RIO. Responsible for maintaining on-going communication. Feedback and follow-through with customers/peers is essential.
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of system and workflow solutions for clinical trials management, biobanking, electronic data capture, protocol review and monitoring, grant development, intellectual property, and other systems supported by RIO.
  • Continually innovate based on industry trends and facilitate networking with outside institutions.
  • May participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for resolution of patient care critical issues.
  • Provide a high level of customer support to DF/HCC stakeholders, including study teams, clinicians, Office of Data Quality, Office for Human Research Studies, Grants & Contracts, Partners eCare and others by either resolving issues or facilitating connection with appropriate resources.
  • Responsible for with business requirements gathering, workflow analysis, definition and documentation of system requirements for the many clinical research business processes involved for each of the DF/HCC institutions as they relate to the various clinical trial systems, biobanking and basic research systems.
  • Develop training materials such as content for eLearning and other end-user documentation for assigned applications
  • Successfully build and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Elicit and document functional requirements for on-going implementation projects; Evaluate processes, propose improvements, and educate user base.
  • Function as the analyst subject matter expert for assigned applications supported by RIO

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Other travel may be required to attend meetings, training, and professional development sessions
  • As projects and priorities dictate, must be available to work non-standard business hours, such as evenings, nights, weekends and holidays when necessary
  • This is an office-based job. Travel is less than 5%, though some travel to meetings in other buildings may be required.


Qualifications


MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Proficient in complete MS Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Clinical or basic research experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Concentration in Information Technology, Bioinformatics, Biology, Computer Science, Basic Sciences or other relevant healthcare or life sciences field preferred.
  • Strong project management skills; formal business analyst training a plus
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams of 5 or more indirect resources (clinical, technical, administrative), including directing the work of user and business representatives within workgroups.
  • Experience with successful implementation of enterprise applications
  • 3-4 years of direct analytical work experience as a business or applications analyst in a customer facing role, in an academic and/or healthcare setting; clinical research experience a plus.
