Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Brooke Alexander Fellowship in the Department of Drawings and Prints at The Museum of Modern Art will provide mentorship and hands-on curatorial training and research opportunities to college graduates who have a strong interest in the field of modern and contemporary drawings and prints. The Fellow will participate in a variety of activities within a large, active curatorial department, including contributing to departmental initiatives and collections management, performing research, assisting in the preparation of gallery presentations and publications, and responding to general curatorial inquiries.

In consultation with and mentored by members of the curatorial team, the Fellow will develop an independent research project on an aspect of MoMA’s collection of Drawings and Prints, to be completed over the course of the Fellowship. The Fellowship offers a $2500 grant to cover travel expenses for approved research trips related to the Fellow’s field of interest. The position is also eligible to participate in the Museum’s tuition reimbursement program.

Hands-on experience with the Museum’s unparalleled collection of more than 70,000 modern and contemporary works on paper will be a defining aspect of the Brooke Alexander Fellowship. Such object-based training and expertise is essential to a curatorial career devoted to drawings and prints. The Fellowship will actively guide and support future generations of curators and scholars who specialize in works on paper, and it will ensure that those emerging professionals are engaged with the Museum’s collection of works on paper and with issues of broad relevance to the field of modern and contemporary art.

  • Performs administrative tasks in the context of curatorial functions, including acquisition procedures, collections records, research for exhibitions and publications, departmental committees, loans, and general curatorial inquiries.
  • Assists curatorial staff in all areas of their responsibilities.
  • Makes the Museum’s collection of drawings and prints accessible to scholars, students, and the public by assisting in the functions of the Department’s Study Center (including, but not limited to, coordinating class visits from local colleges and universities).

REQUIREMENTS:
