Attention Veterinary Assistants! If you love helping animals, and appreciate a fast paced environment, BluePearl Lafayette is looking for an Emergency Room Technician Assistant. Our 10-doctor Emergency and Specialty practice is open 6 days a week at this time with a target of opening 7 days a week. We see a variety of cases from routine to complex surgeries and emergencies.

We are looking for a candidate for our Technician Assistant position. The ideal candidate's skill level should include attention to patient behavior, restraining animals, cleaning kennels, preparing exam rooms and promoting outstanding customer service. The candidate will be a self-motivated, hard-working team player who would like to expand their veterinary knowledge. We do believe in promoting from within and this is the perfect position to start!

This is a full-time position. Hours are varied / flexible schedule and include weekends.

Veterinary Assistant Pay: $19.35 - $28.70 / hour depending on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system. We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

• Shift differentials are based on a 4 hour minimum.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will also:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
