Work Schedule: Hours vary depending on needs of organization; participates in on-call schedule with normal shifts being 12-24 hours on-call, per shift
POSITION SUMMARY
The Birth Tissue Acquisition Specialist is responsible for assisting in the collection of birth tissue and related clinical needs. This position will be in the Operating Room during C-Sections and focused on collecting donated birth tissue and transporting it back to NDN for processing. Per diem employees are not eligible for benefits. Hours are not guaranteed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s)
· Aseptically acquires donated birth tissues according to established protocol, processor requirements, and regulatory standards.
· Completes all required acquisition documentation and in a timely manner according to protocol.
· Provides exemplary customer service to all stakeholders.
· Attends or completes all training sessions /QMS task acknowledgements within the following period of availability/on-call.
· Obtains, labels, and packages blood samples and cultures according to protocol.
· Always applies Universal Precautions and appropriate safety precautions.
· Adheres to the regulations, policies, and procedures published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), NDN, hospitals, and external partners, as required.
· Follows all Standard Operating Procedures as set by NDN and regulatory agencies.
· Always maintains patient and organizational confidentiality.
· Required to have a personal cell phone and arrive to all birth tissue acquisitions at the time assigned or within 1 hour of notification.
· Ensures that all donated tissue is properly packaged, transported, and shipped to the appropriate processing facility.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS & ABILITES
Education: Healthcare/medical training or certificate (preferred); relevant work experience may be substituted for academic requirements
Experience: Six months to one year healthcare related experience (preferred)
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, knowledge of MS office programs
Certificates & Licenses: RN, Paramedic/EMT, CST licenses considered. Must have a valid Nevada driver’s license.
Other Requirements: Knowledge of basic aseptic technique, universal precautions, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required. Travel by personal or company auto is required to meet all the duties and responsibilities of the position. Driving record verbiage? (Ability to pass a background investigation, driving history conducive to corporate insurance policy coverage, etc. Etc. Etc.
