Job Description

The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences is in search of an energetic and dedicated biostatistician to join our dynamic research team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biostatistics and experience working with large and complex datasets. This position will be responsible for providing statistical analysis, bioinformatics, and project management support for various research projects. The ideal candidate will have superb problem-solving skills and prior experience in a research environment and on working with chemical exposures including PFAS and multi-center study designs. Having Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a health-related field is a preferred qualification.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in study design and data management
  • May supervise and mentor junior biostatisticians, postdocs, and graduate students
  • Collaborate with researchers to design and develop statistical analysis plans for research projects
  • Interpret and communicate statistical results to stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, and funding agencies
  • Stay up to date with current statistical methods and attend relevant training or conferences
  • Aid in the development of manuscripts and extramural grant proposals
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of data
  • Prepare and review statistical reports and presentations
  • Conduct statistical analyses using statistical software including R
  • Collaborate with other team members on interdisciplinary research projects

Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with large and complex datasets
  • Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related field
  • Strong statistical analysis skills; fluency in R is required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum of 1 years of relevant experience in biostatistics, statistics, computational biology, computer science or related disciplines
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analysis large biological datasets (e.g. metabolomics, microRNA, etc.)
  • Experience developing code in a team environment (e.g. git/GitHub)

The annual base salary range for this position is $82,672.69 - $85,000 . When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.


Minimum Education: Master's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 1 year, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise: Experience in Biostatistics , Statistics or related field . Experience with SAS, R or STATA.
