Job Description
Overview Of The Role


The unaccompanied Children Program provides temporary residential care and other supportive services to Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) who are under legal custody of the Federal Government. Working in collaboration with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, our program provides a safe and nurturing environment for 33 youth in a Basic Shelter program located at our licensed residential facility in Yonkers, NY as well as a Transitional Foster Care Program for 40 youth in certified foster homes in the Bronx. In both programs, we provide therapeutic and educational services and other supports that youth need to achieve success through an array of strength-based and targeted interventions as well as link them with family members and/or other sponsors in the United States so they are able to move forward with their lives and thrive. The youth Care Worker is responsible for providing direct services and performs various support tasks as part of the youth’s daily care.

  • One or more years of work experience in residential treatment program;
  • Assist youth with their personal issues and refers issues to the grouo in accordance with the principles of the program.
  • Develops effective relationships with youth, co-workers, and team members.

  • Preferred – A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university within one or a combination of the following Counseling, Criminal Justice, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or Social work.
  • Exercises judgment and discretion in the performance of duties within departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Supervises movement of the youth inside and outside the facility policy and procedures.
  • Observes and keeps staff informed daily of significant behavioral conditions known about an individual and/or the group.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) Required
  • Implements the tenants of PBIS with the children (providing the explanation to the children of the PBIS model, ensuring recording of behaviors and distributing Gotchas)
  • Supervises movement of youth inside and outside the facility; takes periodic counts of youth.
  • Weekend and evening shifts
  • Serves as youth’s supervisor with responsibility for the safety, personal conduct, and care of the youth, providing therapeutic interventions.
  • Escorts and/or transports youth to predetermined locations.
  • Two or more years of experience in a group work which involved direct care and interaction with youth such as YMCA, schools, recreational facilities, or residential care programs.
  • Interacts critically and constructively with other staff members to develop and implement successful interventions techniques.
  • Maintains security in buildings, grounds, and other posts; intervenes during emergencies or crisis situations.
  • High School Diploma
  • Assists in preparing reports regarding each youth’s adjustment and progress.
  • Preferred Valid vehicle operator’s license, clean driving record.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
  • Monitors youth during recreational and various activities; (i.e., educational studies, independent living, religious etc.), and conducts inspections for health and safety hazards.
  • Prepares log entries and reports in a timely manner.


Salary $23.00 per hour

Coaches are paired with up to 15 young people and work with each of them from 9th grade (or age 14, if they are disconnected from school) to age 21, regardless of their academic status. Coaches build trusting, long-term relationships with young people. Once the relationship between a Coach and young person is established, the overall goal is to support the young person to Graduate high school, Persist in a post-secondary setting, Build progressive career development experiences in line with their interests, strengths, and academic/vocational plans that will help them navigate onto a living wage career pathway and Successfully navigate the transition into adulthood (and into independent living, for those young people who are aging out).


  • Collaborate with Case Planners, Tutors, Specialists, and foster/birth parents, as needed, to help youth achieve their goals and ensure their overall well-being.
  • Assist students with post-secondary planning, along with the guidance counselors and/or College Specialists and Career Development Specialists.
  • Ability to use motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Works closely with Case Planners to ensure important data is recorded in Connections and Vital documents are accessible.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, advocate, and navigate obstacles where there is not always a clear-cut pathway.
  • Consistently enter and complete data needed to the platform well in advance of the monthly deadline for when reports that are pulled (20th of each month for month prior).
  • Ability to use trauma-informed techniques.
  • Ensure that the young person coordinates with a Housing Specialist and/or Case Planner to ensure that all young people’s housing applications are submitted as early as possible (by age 18).
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in team settings and build relationships with external partners.
  • Given the nature of their work, Coaches should also be able to be reached outside of a 9-5 office schedule.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Understand the importance of the data platform as a relevant way to track the progress of the Coach/Coachee relationship.
  • Bachelor’s degree or related field.
  • Visit the young person’s school/program and build relationships with school staff, review transcripts and academic data, provide educational advocacy, and discuss progress towards graduation/HSE obtainment.
  • Work 11 with young people to conduct an interest/strength inventory to develop individualized academic and career development goals; implementation of measurable steps to effectively assist young people in reaching their desired goals.
  • Ability to facilitate peer groups.
  • Strong time-management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ensure young people who are aging out can access and maintain stable, affordable housing and build independent living skills.
  • Work with the young person and Career Development Specialist to identify potential longer-term career pathways based on the young person’s interests, strengths, and academic/vocational plans.
  • Collaborate with all relevant partners, such as Case Planners, guidance counselors, Specialists, Tutors, teachers, family members, and caregivers.


Salary Range $45,000 – $50,000
