Job Description
Description:

Purpose of Position: Plan, coordinate, and present humane education programs to improve understanding and awareness of animal welfare issues in youth and adult classroom settings.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate volunteer logistics (teen and adult volunteers) including scheduling, training, observations, co-teaching and communications for programs.
  • Assist with educational needs with Healthy Pet Services, helping the under-served with animal welfare.
  • Maintain calendar and audio visual equipment for Education Center rooms.
  • Schedule and present humane education programs to classrooms, libraries, community organizations, senior centers, recreation centers and summer camps.
  • Operate League vehicles to conduct education programs offsite.
  • Transport and safely handle animals that assist in education programs.
  • May assist in English to Spanish translations of materials.
  • Market programs to retain and build relationships while continuing to identify new opportunities.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices.
  • Contribute to and lead initiatives to improve processes and procedures.
  • Maintain department database with schedules, contacts, and program tracking.
  • Research, develop, and evaluate curriculum and supporting materials for classroom outreach programs for schools and learning organizations.
  • Gather and organize departmental data pertaining to programs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools and organizations.

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

Performs work in a general office setting and classroom. Potentially prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and repetitive motion. May work in an area with high noise level. Frequent handling of animals subject to animal bites and scratches. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Occasional lifting with reasonable accommodation. Drives League vehicles regularly.


Shift Details: Five, 8-hour shifts, Tuesday - Saturday during school year

Compensation: $22.50 - $23.65 per hour + $1.00 per hour language differential (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)

Position Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience and comfort working with animals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and databases
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills

Required

  • Bilingual fluency speaking both English and Spanish (Bilingual Community Educator)
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years classroom teaching (formal or informal) experience or equivalent experience in curriculum design and delivery

Desired

  • Experience with Salesforce and Every Action software
  • Experience presenting education programs on animal welfare
  • Familiarity with area schools and youth organizations
  • Bachelor’s degree in education related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience teaching K-12 or similar educational environment
