Job Description
Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Tech performs all job functions under the direction of a licensed nurse. Assists licensed nurses in the delivery of care by performing assigned duties. The Behavioral Health Tech maintains accountability and responsibility for the delivery of safe and competent care.
The Behavioral Health Tech decisions and actions with clients are determined in an ethical manner practicing compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth and unique attributes of each person. Effectively communicates with client, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers. All areas of practice and care delivery are provided to achieve and maintain top decile results and outcomes for patient experience, quality, and patient safety. The Behavioral Health Tech follows and adheres to ARHS policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and standards of behavior.
The Behavioral Health Tech demonstrates the ARHS Mission, Vision, and Values in action, and, approaches work in a way that reflects a bias for action, efficiency, and personal accountability. This person demonstrates professional conduct, effective communication, and effective completion of tasks. Effectively and professionally manages working relationships with coworkers, physicians, and all ARHS team members, in a way that promotes a healthy work environment. Always assists coworkers, clients, families, and visitors regardless of the patient assignment, so long as the assistance is in-line with their scope of practice, license, or certification. The Behavioral Health Tech is a dependent position and performs duties at the direction of the licensed nurse.
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Starting at $16.00 - $23.20 / hour, this position is eligible for shift differentials, is non-exempt, and benefits eligible after a 60-day waiting period.

Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or GED
Experience
  • Previous experience as a CNA preferred
Required Registration/License/Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire
  • Current certification as a certified nursing assistant in North Carolina preferred
  • CPI- required within one year of date of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of and works within the scope of the CNA as a dependent provider taking direction from licensed personnel
  • Competent in delivering safe and effective patient care within limits of certification and hospital policies and procedures
  • Computer skills including data entry and the EMR
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physicians; acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills
  • Knowledge of the continuum of care provided
Physical Demands
  • Lifts, positions, pushes, pulls, and/or transfers up to and greater than 50 pounds
  • Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing/walking
  • Bending, squatting, twisting, and turning
  • Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
  • Manual dexterity and mobility
Working Conditions
  • Frequently per hour: exposed to soft voices > 3 feet away
  • Continuous sitting for long period =to, or, greater than > 4 hours
  • Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies
  • Frequently per shift: lifts, carries, pushes, and/or pulls > 50 lbs.
  • Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, odorous chemicals, and specimens and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
  • Exposed to vibration and cramped spaces > 1-hour day
  • Continuous standing and walking long periods = to or greater than > 8 hours per shift
  • Frequently per hour, exposed to close eye work
  • Infrequently per shift: may be exposed to Ionizing/nonionizing radiation exposure, including x-ray and microwave
  • Frequently per hour: bends, squats, kneels, twists, turns, and reaches
  • Speaking, reading, and writing, expanded > 8 hours per day
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
  • Frequently mobilizes patients > 4 hours per day
  • Frequently per minute: hand, finger, and wrist repetition and moderate dexterity
