Functions with demonstrated expertise in patient care for mental and behavioral health. The nurse provides direct clinical care and support within the behavioral health realm. As a recognized resource for consultation to the bedside staff, the nurse assists assessment, clinical management, communication, crisis prevention, regulatory readiness, and evidence-based care practice. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment. Registered Nurse license issued by the state of Wisconsin Current CPR certification Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). Education Associates degree in Nursing Experience Requires 2 years of experience in nursing Requires 1-year experience in psychiatric or behavioral health working with children, adolescents, and families of diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children's values and support our mission and vision. Understands the pediatric developmental stages and child/family responses to fear, illness, injury, and hospitalization. Analytical skills are necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively and to develop comprehensive plans of care. Synthesizes multiple sources of information to assist in the resolution of human responses to complex problems. Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers. Ability to delegate patient care activities effectively to unlicensed staff as appropriate and where indicated. The ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services. Mental and sensory abilities to read, process and interpret clinical data. Flexible to ambiguity and unpredictability of patient presentations/needs. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Provides services in a setting where there is potential for exposure to blood and other high risk body fluids, chemotherapy agents, communicable disease and hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste. Ongoing risk of vicarious trauma by providing services to a population that carriers a high burden of injury through experiencing adversity and violence. Employees may: Need to move from furniture to floor or engage in play-type activities with children in a variety of room types (exam, interviewing, therapy). Need to verbally de-escalate upset children, adolescents, or adults. Need to adapt approaches or communication styles to fit the needs of the clinic and patient population. Travel between Children's Wisconsin clinic locations may be required.
