We are seeking a graduate student or senior year undergraduate student in mechanical engineering to join a team of scientists dedicated to Li-ion battery safety research as a summer intern or fall semester Co-op.

Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to design and conduct bench- or lab-scale experiment to study the thermal runaway and safety of Li-ion battery cells/modules, and perform data analysis and model implementation/evaluation.

The position will be working under the supervision of a senior scientist, responsible for experimental design, data analysis, modeling and reporting. Execution of the experiments will be supported by research technicians.

Qualifications

The position requires a BS degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related fields with a background in combustion, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, electrochemistry, battery safety and applied mathematics. Familiar with Matlab, Python, and commercial CFD package. Also needed are excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated skill in developing solutions to challenging technical problems

The hiring range for this position is $24.00 to $35.00 per hour. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
