Job Description

Position: Banquet Services Manager

Reports to: Catering Director

Job Summary: The Banquet Manager oversees the catering operations of The Lake House on Canandaigua, directly managing the Banquet Captains and service staff. The Banquet Manager works in collaboration with the Catering Director and the Banquet Chef to ensure the success of all events. The Banquet Manager oversees client events and relations, manages a collaborative team, and maintains vendor relations. The Banquet Manager maintains a thorough knowledge of the Lake House and all its grounds, products, and services as well as awareness of other roles and responsibilities throughout the organization. The Banquet Manager ensures all staff under direct supervision are focused and demonstrating The Lake House attitude and culture and adhering to our Luxury Hospitality Standards. In addition to maintaining our vision by adhering to our values, this position must provide the highest level of service to our guests.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead a team in providing exceptional guest services in preparation, during and following events.
  • Supervise staging of meeting space, food service banquets and special events including appropriate equipment, to meet client and contractual expectations per the Banquet Event Order, assist Banquet Captains to ensure proper pull sheets and that the staging of venues for events are completed properly.
  • Refined verbal and written communication skills.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high energy, positive, and professional appearance.
  • Engage and/or take a lead in regular, consistent pre-event meetings with employees.
  • Maintain the small-wares and event equipment inventory to give timely feedback on loss and reordering needs.
  • Attend staff and management meetings as needed.
  • Thoughtfully and consistently engage in employee management procedures for interviewing, hiring, performance, discipline, and termination.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other management.
  • Order linens and necessary supplies for service for all events. Keep in contact with all vendors. Ensure audio/visual equipment is up to date, in working order and available when needed.
  • Interview, select, schedule, train, coach, counsel and evaluate the performance of the Banquet.
  • Oversee and implement employee training and development adhering to The Lake House and Food and Beverage objectives, obtaining employee satisfaction standards and high-quality guest experience.
  • Supervise and assist with the setup of function rooms according to event order specifications.
  • Be always available to clients prior to, during or after an event, out on the floor and easily visible able to alleviate questions/concerns and provide excellent client service.
  • Oversee clearing and cleaning of all venues, returning, cleaning, and restocking of equipment.
  • Graciously and quickly manage any employee or client issues; report issues to Catering Director.
  • Participate as needed in meetings with the Banquet Chef and/or Executive Chef to review BEOs.
  • Visually inspect function rooms and equipment prior to functions for cleanliness and accurate setup.
  • Responsible for employees adhering to accurate cash handling, banks, and tills, ensure proper accounting and reconciliation of the Point of Sales systems and revenues.
  • In collaboration with the Catering Director, develop and manage staffing plan for all Catering and Meeting Room teams and create weekly team schedules.
  • Step in for staff as needed in urgent circumstances.
  • Ensure all Banquet events are charged properly and accurately using the F&B POS system.
  • A true desire to understand and anticipate the needs of others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the event by maintaining to specified standards, passing Health Department audits and training staff on proper sanitation and safety guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance, adhering to Lake House uniform standards.
  • Five+ years of demonstrated Banquet experience, preferably in a large-scale Catering environment.
  • Cash handling and accounting experience
  • Two to three years of supervision experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Possess time management, give clear and effective direction, verbal acuity, and basic math aptitude, organized, customer service oriented and attention to detail.
  • Alcohol T.I.P.S Training preferred
  • Serve Safe Training preferred
  • Ability to work any day/shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work on-call as needed.
  • Knowledge of industry systems and software; accounting, Agilysis Info Gen, Infor HMS & Infor SCS preferred
  • Able to grasp, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Able to work ten hour-plus shifts plus the ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time.
