This position is responsible for coordinating and delivering athletic training services to assigned teams including prevention, recognition, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries; acute care and emergency response to athletic injuries; rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries; and health care administration for the student-athletes.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Assists in supervision of student athletic trainer apprenticeship education.
  • Maintains professional licenses and certifications.
  • Evaluates, treats and rehabilitates injuries of TAMUT athletes. Taping, bracing and preparation of student athletes for practice and games (events) of assigned sports.
  • Assists in maintenance and supervision of athletic training room, equipment, and supply inventory.
  • Provides attendance and supervision, for safety preventive and emergency care of student athletes, at practices and games (events) of assigned sports. Travel, as directed and required, with assigned teams.
  • Charting and record keeping of student athlete injuries while utilizing current record keeping systems and protocols. Coordination and consultation with Physicians, and student athletes and medical facilities regarding health care.


Minimum Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Must be able to obtain a State of Texas License to practice Athletic Training within six months.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Knowledge of drug testing procedures
  • One-year full-time experience or three years part-time, paid, or voluntary experience as a student trainer.
  • Physical Requirements – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Medical & First Aid skills, including joint taping and physical therapy skills.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Automatic External Defibrillator Certification
  • Member of the National Athletic Trainers Association
  • CPR Certification
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer through the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers


Other Requirements


  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
