Job Description

Athletic Director


JOB GOAL:


To provide leadership, collaboration, and coordination in the area of the athletic program of the school district.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Competency in computer applications (e-mail, Google Calendar, etc.)
  • Ability to develop, organize, and implement programs
  • Administrative and/or coaching experience preferred


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist in supervision at home athletic contests.
  • Schedule coaches to supervise concessions at all home contests. Ensure all home contests have concessions workers.
  • Coordinate the collection of rosters for program information as needed.
  • Maintain files on all coaching staff ensuring they have met all coaching requirements.
  • Act as a resource person and coordinator for all coaches.
  • Secure game workers for athletic contests (chain crews, announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, ticket takers, etc.)
  • Coordinate the ordering of letter jackets, distribution of letters, etc.
  • Coordinate gym use for practices and games and give final clearance for the use of either the gym or the athletic field.
  • Assure that all head coaches complete an evaluation and hold a conference with their assistant coaches within three weeks after the conclusion of their sport season.
  • Coordinate gym, building and athletic field use with the district office and maintain the district building use calendar.
  • Attend Blue Jay Booster Meetings.
  • Submit athletic expense request sheets for payment of officials and other workers (chain crews, announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, etc.) to the district office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure adherence to all NDHSAA and district policies, administrative rules, procedures, and codes relating to, and participation in, athletics.
  • Assist in the selection of coaches for the athletic program.
  • Take care of travel arrangements and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams (and coaches) competing in postseason competition.
  • Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programs.
  • Evaluate all athletic programs on an annual basis. Make recommendations for improvement to the superintendent.
  • Collect and maintain on file a properly completed physical and signed concussion forms for every student participating in athletics.
  • Work with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all bus requests and athletic departure times.
  • Establish procedures for equipment and uniform inventories and replacement schedules.
  • Provide for in-service of coaching staff as needed.
  • Prepare master sports calendars and place on the district’s Google Calendar.
  • Provide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about an athletic program.
  • Hire officials for all district athletic contests.
  • Serve as S-Club Advisor.
  • Coordinate the ordering of post season awards for each program.
  • Disseminate NDHSAA materials and enforce NDHSAA rules and regulations, including player eligibility, and requirements for rosters and necessary materials placed on the NDHSAA web site.
  • Confirm official’s contracts.
  • Complete an evaluation and hold a conference with all head coaches within three weeks after the conclusion of their sport season.
